Looking at a few reviews, running higher mhz ram will help improve lows on MSFS which I play a lot of.

I've currently got a CL28 6000Mhz kit, and was tempted to give one of the new GSkill 48GB CL36 8000Mhz kits a go

Has anyone else given this a try yet?

Depends greatly on you motherboard, if its the one in your sig, then dont waste your money, X670 and B650 2 DPC motherboards never managed to run ram any faster than 6400, 6600 if you had a golden CPU, it was only 1 DPC boards like the Gene that could do it, I thik some of the newer X870 and B850 boards can do it, but not sure which ones, I think to guarantee 8000 and above you'd need something like the X870 Hero or Apex, but ive never tried so cant really vouch for them.

Im running a G.Skill 8400 CL40 kit on my X670 Gene at 8000 CL34 with a 7950X3D, but 8000 is a limit of 7000 series chips unless youre willing to push up BCLK, maybe when I upgrade to a 9950X3D or wait for Zen6 i'll push it up even faster, but its water cooled as it needs a shed load of voltage, but runs very well, I wasnt going to upgrade a great board for the mess that X870 is.

I currently run a set of gskills 8000mhz at c32. You have to give it a fair bit of vram voltage as well. It was orginally something like c38. I got it cheap off the members market for like £100. I have a whole bunch of other memory here like the c28 6000 stuff you mentioned. I did get it to 6200 but couldn;t get it stable at 6400 on the 9800x3d. Might have to revisit that and try again.
 
Thanks for the reply folks, gah, didn't realise I'd need a new mobo.

Is it worth me keeping an eye out for low CAS 6400 RAM then? or can you not run 1:1 ?

(I don't have time anymore in life for days of tweaking, Plug in and go is what I'm looking for.

I don’t know if you need a new motherboard but running 6400mhz at 1:1 depends on your cpu IMC. If your cou has a good IMC it will do it and vis a vis if the IMC is not that strong then it could be problematic. It not so much on the motherboard as it is on your CPU. That’s why cas latency and frequency in the whole scheme of things is not a big deal as the cookie cutter suggestion of 6000 c30 just works comparatively to intel CPU’s which generally have a stronger memory controller.

I am not saying there is no improvement at all what I am saying the impact of high speed low cas latency on Ryzen setup is generally less than the impact on intel cpus.

You are better off working on your secondary timings.

Unless you are willing to bin CPU’s to find one that can and do high fclk.

Yes you would be better off (if not looking to change your motherboard) looking for a 48gb kit of low CAS 6400.

But id be interested to know what RAM you currently have ? have you tried overclocking it to see if it can do 6400 and if your IMC can do it too ? that way you'll know if its worth picking up a 48gb 6400 kit or not.

Yes 1:1 is the way to go, its actually considered as 3:3:2 with Ryzen 7000 and 9000, 3000mhz on the UCLK, 3000mhz on the RAM / MCLK (DDR6000) and 2000mhz on the FCLK

So at 6400 you'd be running 3200 UCLK automatically or force it by changing UCLK=MCLK/1 in the bios, 3200 MCLK (DDR6400) and would want to change your FCLK to 2133

Might be wrong, but as far as I'm aware high frequency ram has little benefit with x3d chips because of the large memory Vcache on the CPU. Rather than spending £600 on a new mobo and 8000Mhz ram surely you'd be better off selling the 9070xt and putting the sale proceeds and that £600 towards a better graphics card (RTX 5090 - it wouldn't be worth swapping to a 5080 from a 9070XT)
 
Even on a 1DPC board it's still quite difficult to get a high frequency with a low enough latency for it to perform better than 1:1.

Even if you do manage still need a fan on the sticks or watercooling. It's ok if you like to tinker but wouldn't recommend it for daily stuff.

Yeah, unfortunately, AM5 doesn't play well with high speed RAM as most motherboards are't good enough to run very high speed RAM and even then, the IMC in your CPU is also an issue and probably won't work well with high speed RAM either.

You could get 6000 CL26 RAM but it's hellishly expensive (see below) and you'd be far better off, as someone else has pointed out, just buying a better GPU.

That is just a pre order price isn’t it, like what they do with the 5090’s before they actually give the real price?

Have you seen this? I really don't think your going to see that much difference?


Also have a watch of buildzoids video which is where you want to be if you wanted 8000Mhz but as said you'd probably need a better board :)

I have 8000 mhz at CL 32 you need a shedload of voltage and cooling for it. But really depends on your IMC.

I have been testing at 8200 mhz as well I can get into windows for a bit but then it crashes

Well, that's the pricing right now and I hope it does drop but I did ask the OC admins in the product support thread if that was the final price and I've hear nothing back soo.........

I should test this out sometime those YouTube vids especially from the smaller content creators are sketch AF.

So I have one set of 6000 c28 and another set of 8000 c32. While I can’t imagine at 4k that it be a huge difference at 1080p it could be,not that I would ever use 1080p. I could do a like for like setup besides the mem and see what results I would get.
