EV general discussion

Would be very interested in hearing your thoughts on the seal, they look great in my opinion and are reviewing really well.

It'll have to wait until next weekend, I turned up and they'd sold the demonstrator and forgot to let me know. Standard car dealer stuff. Oh dear.

Anyway they are registering a new one on Monday that I can have next weekend instead.

I sat in the one in the showroom and I have to say initial impressions were positive... of the car itself, anyway.

A few questions, what mobile phone do you own? As most of them are manufactured in China or majority of parts are.
How is that relevant to spending tens of thousands of pounds on a car from a state owned car manufacturer?

I have no problem buying Chinese but I won't be buying anything from an SAIC spin off any time soon. No matter what historic British brand badge they buy to slap on the front.

Maybe because there are many Chinese mobile phone manufacturers and many other manufacturers have there products made in China. Hence if you want to afford buying any product that is backed the Chinese CCP etc it’s kind of hard to avoid these days.

Agree initially they do seem a very positive car. I do like the looks of them a lot and I don’t think I have seen one negative review of one yet.

Likes of Apple/iphone manufacture aren't being subsidised by the CCP to monopolise world phone production like solar-panels/steel/ev's ...? albeit Apple are moving their production anyway

when BYD start offering the practicality of an estate like i5/id7 maybe it will be more attractive (like Nio?)

well unless the government continues monopoly investigation into aforementioned fleet companies the smart (private) money is on second hand, hand me downs;
what was the last new car you bought, conversely parents had had several.

e: daddy or chips estate I can put things in the back of or immasculated V8

I took delivery of the Seal Design yesterday and albeit being a brand that is perhaps 'foreign' to the UK the car is excellent.

I think most people would be quite surprised to the build quality and interior.

[older Ioniq 5 will be getting that new luxury car tax tomorrow, too, as I similarly heard tesla owners complaining about, on r4 at lunch time, and ev insurance 'premium' , anyway;
so used values will drop ]

I see JP has been dishing out sound advice again based on listening to the radio and watching YouTube, apparently correcting him in the thread it was posted in is off topic, it is no wonder people don't know jack about EV's with all the drivel posted.

yes ok yes forgot old 40K ev's won't have to pay lux tax, just the ved - which wasn't corrected on the r4 programme either. - you had suggested he buy an ioniq forgetting insurance consideration anyway .
the industry representative in the programme was also saying evs with smaller batteries charged faster too.

More rubbish, what makes you think it is going to be vastly more expensive than a crappy Sportage etc.? Do you have the person full details and history, think before you type and post maybe?

Of course they charge faster, if you have smaller battery then you need to put less energy in to get to the same percentage if the charge speed is the same.

Still no idea what’s going on with the ID.7

When I went in a couple of weeks ago, they told me it’d be ready the next day

When I last checked the app, all the faults are still present :P

Not sure if they have any clue what they’re doing.

Better yet, Alphabet reached out and asked me if the issues are still present, as VW contacted them telling them I had the ID.7 back.

Couldn’t make it up!

This afternoon on the way in to work I closed what must've been the 6th charging port in the last few months on a car stuck in traffic. Each time the driver thanked me but it does make me think. Clearly when folks are unplugging their cars they're looking at their apps on their phone or whatever which results in the charging port being left open. This afternoon's was a BMW i7 and the thing stuck out a foot or so, just waiting to be kicked / bumped off.

I don't recall seeing this happen many times with ICE cars, is it perhaps an idea for the manufacturers to add a sensor and a warning? Whilst I'm sure it won't do much damage, forgetting it in the rain could accelerate some issues.

I actually once unplugged and forgot to close my charge point in the first month driving the EV. Not sure why! I've never left a fuel door open on an ICE car. I noticed as soon as I drove round the corner though as it's pretty obvious in the side mirror! I'm a little surprised they don't warn you about it honestly. The ID.7 has a manual door, but it could still have a sensor for checking it's closed.

My MG4 has a sensor and tells me it's open.

I can see how it would happen as there is a bit more 'cognitive load' at a public charger than a fuel pump.

A car as expensive as an i7 doesn't have a motorised charge port door? or is it an optional extra?

I don't normally look in here as I have no interest in EVs, but glad I did to see your true colours.

As for dishing out incorrect advice, the irony is strong given that you apparently can't help but evangelise about EVs even when the OP of another thread specifically said he wanted a petrol car.

I suggest you both put each other on ignore so that the rest of us don't have to put up with the bickering, and that you take a hint when people state they do not want an EV
