After 5 minutes of the highlights we were moaning about Villeneuve, but actually he gave some good factoids I didn’t know. I can’t remember others, but like a higher downforce car requiring more fuel for example. There were a couple where we were like “oh that’s actually interesting”. He is a terrible commentator though and needs to stop talking over people :p
True, but I gave up on him after being asked how Max would position his car for the start ( ie giving him an opportunity to give some racer insight into pointing towards / away from your opponent) and he responded that Max has to start in his grid position and has no choice over that

Although having him there really highlights how much of a skill commentating is.

I am glad I read this first - I always record F1 which mean's I can fast forward the adverts but I think I will give it a miss this week.

Oh for the old days and Australian saloon cars at bathurst with the Nissan Skylines -Fords and Jaguar's.
Nothing stays still does it.

Norris just isn’t good enough.

I am always in conflict about this with the current driver lineup.

It seems to me at least that Russell, Leclerc, Norris, Gasly, Albon etc are all much of muchness with Max just on a different level. It does feel that you could put pretty much anyone in the McLaren and get the same results.

Is it that the drivers now are just all of high quality with Max being the exception to the rule or are they are all pretty average with Max just being good.

Maybe it is just rose tinted and the playing field is more level now but you always had those special drivers like Montoya, Hakkinen, Raikkonen, Alonso, Schumacher who could magic something out of nothing. Outside of Max I do not see that special X-Factor in any of them.

But only because RB had a slow stop, on any other day the gap on pit exit would've been the same as the gap on entry.

True. But they did have a slow stop. Slow stops are a thing that happens. What would pitting Norris after Max achieve other than letting Piastri pass Norris and giving Max a lap on faster, fresher tyres to build a bigger lead over Norris?

I suspect that better technology, data, training, sims etc. coming in over the years makes the field much more even than it used to be. Look at a Premier League match now compared to say one 30 years ago. Much like the cars are much more evenly matched this year compared to the first year of regs — the drivers are much more evenly matched apart from a few. As I keep saying, it’s consistency that’s key. If you’ve got 5% more raw talent than the next guy but have a habit of clutching out or binning it more, he’s going to win overall by taking advantage of your mistakes.

Back in the day, the best raw talent in drivers probably made up 70% of their speed and 30% training. Now it’s like 90% training and 10% talent. Or, the talent is being able to take onboard the training etc. You can even hear engineers coaching drivers on specific corners sometimes and how to drive them, which is nuts.

Well just watched the full race, glad I didn't get up and probably should have stayed in bed all day.

Just awful.

No option to change the poll rating? There was one last time. Only clicked a number as wanted to view the rating to figure out whether it was a worth a watch, and it didn't have the "I'm not voting, show me the results" option.

They need to add some 0 and minus ratings after that.

Just seems that hoping the other team will have a slow pitstop isn't a stratergy - it's just hoping. If they had undercut, maybe they get some quick laps in clear air - or overcut and get some tyre delta at the end.

I do worry for Oscar, Lando and Mclaren that they are so busy watching each other that they are going to forget Max - who will always be there waiting to pick up the points - a repeat of 2007 with Lewis and Fernando, letting kimi take the championship.

One of the most boring races I've ever watched.

Jesus.

Not even one ****** retirement!

To be honest, I think the tyres are just total rubbish. Especially this year.

how has Stroll still got a seat ? is he another cash for drive type like Mazepin was ?
Don't you know? His Dad is literally is part owner of the Aston Martin brand and he wholly owns the Aston Martin F1 team. Daddies boy is going nowhere :p

In defence of Lance, he scored points in the first 2 races and is currently beating Alonso in the championship.
