The Radeon RX9070XT / RX9070 Owners Thread

Not sure they have stock now to even get another one, I'd happily pay a little more to change it for something else. I've never bought Sapphire before and I'm massively unimpressed with the issue I have with the bracket but that wasn't a show stopper.. I've had a few cards back in the day with similar lesser issues where a little bend here and there on the bracket or case sorted it.
Just send it back if not happy.

Seems like someone managed to flash an XT BIOS onto a non-XT card...

It doesn't unlock any more CU's but it does unlock higher voltages and clockspeeds which, if you're willing to take the risk, may result in 15-20% better performance when overclocked.

Yeah. Was only a matter of time.

They’ll likely be some powerful BIOS’s coming for the 9070XT in time too. Don’t think it’ll be long and we’ll see 15+PL and more power allocation. That would be VERY interesting.

I played through the entire game on my 3070 and only really got a few minimal stutters here and there.

On my 9070xt, it's really bad at times. I've checked the frame rate and it's really high, but the stuttering is awful at times. Even getting pauses where I think it's locked up for a second.
I played through to completion on my XTX without any of these big pauses others talk about, just the occasional micro stutter, like you describe woth your 3070, which wasn't disrupting or immersion breaking.

I'll reinstall and try with the 9070 XT. I won't be able to test for a week, but when I get the opportunity I'll get back to see if it's a 9070 XT issue. Everything else in my rig is the same as when I had the XTX, so if I now have large stutters, it can only be the GPU causing it.

Many thanks for that :)

I'll have another fiddle with it tonight. Been doing a bit of research and someone suggested that you need to clear the cache out every time you change any video settings.

@CAT-THE-FIFTH could you add me to the TROH please? 9070XT Pulse 6/4/25

Thanks!

Amazing overclocker and cool and quiet.

Maybe a later revision but mine has 2 stand thingys/supports to stop the heat sink bending and didn’t get any foam in mine to remove.

Anyone please recommend any fast and dirty UV and OC settings? Cheers

It varies on different builds and other factors, but, the game is a big stutter fest and is well known for it. As said, look on any benchmarks/gameplay online and you will see the same thing.

There is no rig out there that will run it stutter free because the issue is with shader caching and EA never addressed it. Anyone who says they notice no stuttering is either just not sensitive to it, or are overlooking it .

On my 7900XTX, it was stuttering a lot at the start and you could see by the CPU usage that shaders were loading in and tanking the frame time. Further into the game, they eased off a lot to the point they weren’t very noticeable. That’s partly because of less shader caching, and also because I simply go used to it and tuned out.

I’ll try it on my 9070XT because I love the game, but I expect no different. The issue isn’t with setups, it’s with the game itself. Monitor refresh, freesync, CPU, GPU may all influence the severity of it, but, it’s a game inherent issue and certainly not something I’d use as a basis to think my setup is faulty.

Phew. That’s one sweet rig.

The real question is, can you sleep easy now ?

Pulled the trigger on the return. The ill fitting bracket should've been a warning sign enough. Thanks for everyone's help and suggestions, appreciate it. Time to order a 5080 and find the thread for that one..

nvidia has its own issues, well a few of them doing quick search. so wouldn't bank on stability tbf

That’s a shame. I think you just got unlucky and I personally would have just given it another go on a different card.

You might be luckier on the 5080, but NVIDIA have their own issues and unstable drivers.

My saga continues with this card. In good old AMD fashion, just problem after problem :(

- First the black screen crash with the PC not posting after, BIOS reflash was literally the only thing that would recover the PC. DDU did nothing but after a complete Windows reinstall, this problem went away.
- Next issue is call of duty performance, some maps its brilliant with frame gen and FSR4 (~280fps), other maps there is very noticeable latency and sometimes the game just micro stutters randomly despite 200fps+ for no reason, regardless of settings - As much as I'd like to blame the game, I think this IS a card issue as lots of people are reporting this so far on reddit on various games.

Now Avatar is having issues. I get a solid 100fps+ native, then randomly GPU utilisation goes from 98% down to ~30% and fps drops to about 13! The only way to recover this when it happens is to change the video from 'Fullscreen' to 'Fullscreen borderless' or visa versa, then everything is happy again.

You can see in these logs, it happened 3 times here and recovered instantly each time I changed the video setting.

This is definitely one buggy ass card that doesn't play nicely with many games :(

Yeah I've seen the shenanigans being reported on my Tech Jesus this week, that looks like bad drivers though to me. Seems people have had joy rolling back to before they pushed a bad deployment out and had success. I did ask about another 9070XT but they're all on pre-order. I can't RMA it til Wednesday anyway as I'm out tomorrow day and evening. I'll check stock tomorrow and consider what I do in regards to being Red or Green. I had a 6800XT before this I absolutely love/loved so I'm not against staying AMD.

Yeah, I saw that all unfolding. Fully embraced to hit yet more issues. PC building life..
not forgetting the ROPS saga, your paying a 3rd more for slightly better raster in a lot of games before uv amd and n oc on nvidia, just makes more sense pay the 2k ish n get a halo, theres a bagain of 2.7k model available on oc now lol
