*** The Official Nintendo Switch 2 ***

I honestly thought it would be around £45-£50 for a pair. Nintendo are really having people's pants down with this switch 2. I also cannot believe they are charging £10 for a playable demo of the hardware.

I can't blame them; inflation has been rampant since 2017 when the Switch 1 came out, tell me one thing that hasn't got dearer?

No hall effect sticks!? That's taking the biscuit.

I mean was anyone actually expecting Nintendo of all folks to do that for first party controllers? If they didn't mention it during the hardware segment of the Swutch 2 Direct, it clearly wasn't happening. Less-drifty joystick tech is something they would have shouted from the rooftops if they had implemented it for Switch 2.

Honestly... screens. Over a decade ago I paid over £200 for a TN 1080p60 monitor and that was the cheapest best deal back then. Today, for far less than that, one can get a high refresh, higher resolution, better panel technology monitor for under £200. Even OLED 1440p monitors are now priced at what IPS ones launched at back in the day.

But also wages for anyone not on minimum wage. Inflation means bugger all when wages don't rise proportionately alongside the cost of everything. Actually the job market is far worse, less jobs, a lot of companies trying to rely more on AI and automation. Even the creativity jobs that folks thought automation would never do... now they got AI doing voice-overs, making art and logos, writing stuff. Thankfully Steam requires games to clearly advertise their use of such technologies, but otherwise, I certainly see big publishers like EA and Nintendo trying to use AI. Meanwhile profits are at all-time highs.

I thought I missed out when the UK retailers started to release preorders, but I have recently received plenty of preorder notifications… so it has been relatively stress free compared to the 50 series lol.

Options from Very, Smyths, Amazon and Argos.

US Pre-Orders (Via Nintendo) not starting until into May; US & Canada people eligible will on May 8th

According to this tweet from Shinobi, someone in the replies has suggested all NA distribution goes through the US meaning potential impact on Canada & Mexico even in the short-term. I guessing the former is the more important market. So kinda related to those conversations over the weekend, but one possible unforseen consequence in the short-term for the other NA countries.

They will have a tough decision to make if things aren’t resolved by then.

How likely is it that games like Donkey Kong will drop to ~£40 within 3-6 months? £65 is just so much for a game.
Unless Nintendo have a re-think on the entire pricing structure, zero to none.

Used 1st party games like Zelda were trading hands for £30-£40 for a few years for the Switch 1 and they 'only' cost £50 new.

EDIT: Many first party Switch 1 games are still £50 that have been out for years.

Yikes, thanks. So there’s little point waiting then if it’s something you’re going to play anyway.

I preordered from Smyth's but managed to get an Amazon preorder so cancelled my Smyth's order as I prefer Amazon customer services. Managed to get a John Lewis preorder with accidental damages protection for an extra £30 so cancelled my Amazon preorder.

Tbh I weren't actively looking for a switch preorder and I still managed to preorder 3 so feel there be plenty of consoles available, enough to ensure everyone who wants one will be able to purchase one and hopefully they won't be sold on eBay for stupid prices.... Whether I keep my John Lewis preorder is another thing as I'm still torn between a steam deck and steam deck 2

Well one would have thought after all the joycon fixes they had to repair for free, they would have gone hall or something better.

nintendo doesn't do discounts

you should buy a 2nd hand physical copy after launch
That's not quite true. Nintendo don't permanently discount their games but they do put them on sale from time to time. Also the Nintendo store isn't always the cheapest place to buy games - retailers often have better deals.
