NVIDIA RTX 50 SERIES - Technical/General Discussion

Any one had any issues getting accurate fps read outs from a 5090? Both Afterburner and Steams own counter don't seem accurate. I.e turning on frame gen and showing as no increase, or cutting power limit to 60% and no decrease. Or sometimes both read outs completely at odds with each other 86fps vs 150fps etc. Menus seem accurate, but second in game *boom*. Dosn't seem to be fluctuating as much as it should either, i.e fps only changing one digit every 30 seconds or so.

Nope, on my 5080 whenever I change to/from MFG I instantly see the difference in fps in afterburner and osd

I'm not running the steam counter though, I only ever have one up at a time as I've had conflicts in the past trying to run multiple osd's

I'm going to try and change motherboard bios this afternoon. Hopefully if I can get fps reporting with my 9800x3d outside of rivatuner monitoring mode, it will help resolve :)

Definitely something wrong there. Any monitoring software I've used be it built into the games or 3rd party shows any differences to FPS including MFG.
Well motherboard bios update didn't do anything, nor reseting rivatuner, or running as administrator. Or changing a few options in benchmarking mode window. :(

Steam FPS monitoring works fine and shows expected boost with frame gen and dlss, turning off RT etc, Afterburner just dosnt change and 1% lows seem really low that arnt reflected in gameplay. Not much information on the Internet either apart from putting it in benchmarking mode and changing "percentile" to "ring" options (which it already was on).

Thanks everyone who answered my undervolting question. Now running at 0.89 at 2800.

Quick question, do you also set the power limit slider down as well when undervolting? I always assumed undervolting with the curve editor made that slider redundant as the curve meant it would never get to 100% anyway? Or should I also set that to 90 or 80%?

You are correct- just leave the sliders now.

Thanks Vito!

Size of the thing…the 4090 I had was big enough, it’s very snug against the cable, not quite pushing it but any more and it would, almost makes me want to get a wider case

If you're running an AIB you'll need a bit more juice at 0.895. The 0.89 figure is for FE's. Also set for 2827Mhz.
If you download the Afterburner profile mod you can max vram to +3000Mhz

Guys - how is a 5800x3d gonna be feeding a 5080? I was going to go with a 9070xt because of the lower CPU utlliization (but FSR4 just isn't in the games), but don't want a crazy bumpy ride with my current CPU on a 5080 really either. I have 32GB 3733C16 ram

How big of an issue is the melting 5090 connection issue in reality?
Too early to tell. There are only 5 or so verified cases so far, but chances are that not everybody affected posts about it online. The numbers seem lower so far than they seemed with the 4090, but shipments of cards also seem to have been slower. The 5090 doesn't even make it onto the bottom of the Steam Hardware Survey GPU list yet (which the 4090 got onto almost straight away).

What over clock is everyone getting? I've got +400mhz +2000 Memory and getting +16 fps 4k Uncharted, +10fps Returnal 4k. I need to do more tests to see if it's stable. But that would put it overclocking better than any 4090 I had.

More than that, reddit has a count of over 40 cards
Out of the thousands sold, that's most likely we'll within fault tolerance.

Just think of all the microwaves, tvs and fridges that get returned, but you never hear about that because gamers are mostly whining kids who put everything on social media

Thousand, singular. Globally.
Well not really, I'd presume your 40 number includes 5080s since there was some reports of burning connectors from those too and that'd take the number above only a thousand sold. Though honestly where did you even get the number from? If they haven't all been checked its possible some are caused by other issues. Not defending the ****** connector, I think it still needs to be totally redesigned, but I remember seeing at least one where someone mixed power supply cables, and that's been a no-no far before this connector rubbish.

I think the connector is a worry, but there is things you can do to try and reduce the chances.
- Not using old cables which have been unplugged a lot
- Making sure the cables are all fully plugged in
- Don't be silly with sharp bends on the cable close to the connectors
- Undervolting, you can get similar performance with a substantial watts usage drop, there's no reason not to on a 5090
