Would you warn oncoming drivers of a mobile speed camera?

As asked really.

I'm really interested in the responses, and for clarity, I believe everyone should keep to the speed limit, in particular in built up areas and busy traffic.

If I'm on the bike, or happen to have the car window open, and can give an appropriate hand signal, then yes.
Same as if I've not long passed a horse rider, I'll give a signal then.

Flashing lights at them doesn't work, as they'll still be wondering what that was all about when they hit the danger area.

Yep.

Money banks the lot of them, get one around the corner to me, been parking there for years has it had any effect on safety of that particular road? Nope.

They found a new spot on the other side of town, new speed limit in place gone from 50 to 40 to 30 so you can imagine the road, it's dual carriage way one round about from an A road that is NSL, catching loads of people and guess what I don't see them around the corner from me now fighting the good fight on that road they have sat for years but still sees frequent accidents.

Yep. Speed cameras are all about the money not road safety.

That’s such a stupid thing to say, if no one sped there wouldn’t be any money to be made would there. The fact is the vast majority couldn’t care less about their speed and suffer accordingly. I drive a car that’s over 600bhp so it isn’t like I’m adverse to speed every now and then, I just don’t pretend I don’t know what I’m doing and then whine about it if I get caught.

Yes. One of my favourite instances was when a cyclist warned me about a mobile speed camera, he waved like a lunatic. Thank you my friend.

Only ones I maybe wouldn't warn someone about are where there is a genuine accident blackspot or dangerous road layout. But most cameras I see are on dual carriageways or at speed limit changes.

Have you seen the reduction in road traffic injuries in Wales since the introduction of of the 20mph speed limit? Go take a scan, it’s quite interesting

Problem is these stats always have a lot of spin on them. Visitors to Wales also dropped as no one wants to roll around the countryside at 20mph, it's annoying.

Be interesting to see the longer term results - I looked at several of the areas (outside of Wales) which have implemented 20MPH zones and there is always a drop the first year but back to previous numbers by year 3 (keeping in mind usually traffic volume levels generally increase over time) and converge on the trend pre the change by year 5. This often seems partly due to a small to moderate increase in the number of people cycling and a shift to cyclists being involved in incidents.

It is clear from research that incidents at 20mph have better outcomes than at 30mph. I suspect the reason creep up back to previous numbers at year 3 and so on is that increasing numbers of drivers edge back up their old speed and ignore the 20mph limits.

On the original topic there was a girl at work who was prosecuted for warning other motorists - there was a police spot check operation thing and the officer up the road saw her doing it and she posted publicly on Facebook. I dunno what the outcome was though.

Agreed, I got my 6 points and £lol fine back in the day but I didn't whine about it because I knew exactly what I was doing.

I'll mark them on Waze but other than that no.
