I live near a river which has plenty of wildlife on it including swans and ducks. Over the last few years, we've had a massive rise in Catapult Killing youth, which target the swans and ducks in particular. The local community are really angry about this and the police have been involved at times. It has got to the point where people are talking about vigilantism on local facebook groups to try to tackle it. The youth have been filmed doing it but just wear hoodies and masks and run off into the woods or back home. Facebook groups takes down any posts about it to protect them from exposure when people take pictures or videos.

If said children aren’t educated enough to know that killing swans is not only illegal but also scummy, then well I guess calling them scum is fair game.

It was called 'poaching' back in my days. The soap opera Neighbours ran a story on it in 1989 IIRC.

It's needless loss of life.

I remember being a menace with a catapult when I was about 13/14. Saved up and bought a Black Widow, i think it was called, from our local knick-knack shop at the time. Had a lot of fun pinging paintballs at people with that. I'd be a liar if I said I didn't try and get a duck once but luckily my bad aim meant wildlife was safe

It's all fun and games until you do it to the wrong person.

Someone I grew up with did this and fired one through a blokes car window in the height of summer, he stopped, got out, chased the kid and kicked the **** out of him to the point the lad ****** and **** himself. That lad grew up and became an extremely violent individual and I can't help but think a lot of that was down to that incident and being so afraid of what another person can do to you.

One of the reasons putting me off having another child is the chance of it being a boy. If I could have another girl, I'd have one in a heart beat. Being a boy and growing up, I know how stupid we can be and I don't want the stress of raising one

Was going to say happened a lot in the mid 80s to early 90s or so (probably before that - but there was an increase in it to the point the police started taking action around then) around where I live but died off with the advent of the internet but seems to have started up again post COVID for some reason.

Far from the worse though, I remember hearing that some particular town or City ( i dont remember ) had teens going around doing the "bagging game"
The idea being to stab someone in the gut and twist so that the victim would need a colostomy bag fitted for life.
They should get life in prison but the UK Legal system is so soft that I bet they were out of youth centre / jail in less than 40 months.

This sounds like one of those things that was happening 'in another town' - or in other words, wasn't happening at all.
