Quest 3 owners etc

Is the official meta elite one decent?
Also any recommendations on pc cable as £90 for the official one seems ridiculous.
I've no experience of the official meta elite strap tbh sorry so can't really say. Yeh as others have mentioned about the cable, just get a much cheaper 3rd party one, does the same job, maybe not go too cheap though, you don't want absolute crap that will break at the first sign of a bend.

consider getting one that has a right angled connector where it plugs into the Quest to minimize strain on the Quests USB-C port. get 5M. but as LostCorpse has said if you can you want to go wireless 100% it's much better for playing, convenience, immersion etc, it's 1 of the Quest's main party tricks really.

Thanks for the advice guys, virtual desktop worked perfectly.
Fired up half life alyx for the first time in 4 years, **** me what a difference from the cv1. Mind completely blown.

Bit late now, but unsure why people recommend Virtual desktop, when Steam link is completely free, and works perfectly for me.. and I play exclusively wirelessly.. Only if Steam link wasn't working well for some reason would I recommend a paid application.. heyho..

it just happens to be what i use as i paid for it a long time ago, back in quest 1 days when it first released, and i planned to get a better PC sooner.
it also integrates to Steam and Meta software allowing it to launch both titles if the software is instealled.
plus i havent had the chance to properly play with the steam link or airlink.
we go with what we know unless it doesnt work.

Pre SteamLink, AirLink was sometimes very flaky, and sometimes just didn't work. If the PC and headset software weren't the same version they just wouldn't talk to each other. So your only option was to try VD as an alternative.

The main reason now is Virtual Desktop's custom OpenXR runtime VDXR which can massively improve performance in OpenXR games.

If you combine this with Open Composite which translates older SteamVR games to OpenXR you can get even larger performance increases for games like modded Skyrim VR.

VIrtual Desktop also allows you to easily change the resolution, refresh rate, codec and bitrate - easier than in Meta Link.

I'm a late convert to Virtual Desktop despite having had it for years, mainly because I couldn't get it as sharp as Meta Link, but that's changed with recent updates. Also Meta Link seems increasingly flaky by comparison.

As for Steam Link, despite having an eye tracking headset which should allow better performance I've never got it to be as sharp and smooth as either Meta Link or Virtual Desktop. It's always been blurry, heavily compressed and stuttery for me.

I'm a Virtual Desktop convert now with it having VDXR as Ravenger has mentioned, for me some games that were borderline unplayable due to low FPS even with everything turned down are now playable thanks to VDXR. Edit: bought it when afaik it was the only wireless solution.

Absolutely loving this quest 3, downloaded moss for the kids to try.......wow what a cracking little game. I will let them have a shot when I've completed it now lol.
Can't wait to play through all the games I've missed eg Lone Echo 1 and 2, Metro, red matter and anything else I can find.

I keep reading that Moss is a very good game, I would have bought it by now but for some reason 3rd person view in VR doesn't sit right with me, but will try Moss next time it's on sale anyway, there must be something good about it with how people I've seen saying it's good.

Funnily enough, you could describe Moss as 1st person. It depends (ironically) on your point of view. The thing is - you aren't playing the mouse. You're playing you. You're an onlooker, who is helping the mouse. There are moments of interaction which make this clear.

As to whether that makes any difference to you though!

didn't max mustard get pulled by meta, along with richies's plank
yer it did, i dont think it was clear why it did :/
i thought the devs said they should resolve it shortly, that was some time ago though

still not on meta store when i checked.

Bought one yesterday. Zen Studio came up with Pinball FX VR, a reason to pick one up. Despite getting the better out of the game via UEVR on my PC, the compelling desire to play pinball at work during lunch was worth the investment.

Bit disappointed with the passthrough though, little bit grainy and oversaturated. Definitely something that'll evolve, it actually interests me enough to look at the vision pro or toward something on the horizon doing the same but possibly better.

Perhaps a set of these will help -

Finally got around to hooking the Q3 up to my new computer to try out Automobilista 2 tonight.

Absolutely epic. And seamless performance over the D-Link airbridge.
Come join us

Very tempting! But I'm not very good, and would be very worried about the potential of punting someone off and angering you all.
That said, I was surprised to only be around 5 seconds down on the lap record (driving Oulton Park in a Merc 190E). I expected to be way slower than that.
But I don't have the consistency. At least once a race I'll end up on the grass (and I don't seem to be capable of getting back off it again without pirouetting for an age!)
