*** The Official Nintendo Switch 2 ***

Seems some people were hoping for more from the new mario kart and are disappointed with the latest nintendo direct showing it off??

I mean what did they expect - its mario kart basically. Its been the same formula since SNES version.

People just don't understand that inflation + a company at the top of their game + their best product = price increases, and therefore there's a sense of entitlement for some huge "extra". If the price was lower people would be falling over themselves in adoration.

Looks like Nintendo has scrubbed all mentions of docked mode being compatible with VRR from all their sites.

That's lame as hell. This release has been such a *********** so far.
Still says it on their page.

"Bring games to life with a larger 1080p screen – or connect to a TV and play in up to 4K resolution*. Support for HDR, VRR, and frame rates up to 120 fps let you enjoy brilliant colour, clarity, and smooth gameplay."

I think its more about the state of the gaming industry today.

Expensive consoles being released but consumers are seeing very little in return to justify the price.

I have got my Switch 2 pre order down. I have purchased every major game console on release since the original Xbox in 2001 when I first entered the workforce. But I have been gaming since the Commodore 64 and Amiga days.

I have seen a few unexpected, positive things from game manufactures since 2001. Microsoft dropping the price of the original Xbox. Admitting it was too expensive on release. Same with Nintendo dropping the price on the 3DS. Back then game companies responded to gamers.

But today its not about gamers anymore, look at the problems the industry has. Which is basically down to pure greed.
Game companies doing mass lay offs or being shutting down.
Games being released for over £60 then need a bunch of patches before its at playable state months down the line.
Subscription models, price increase over time with services being removed but prices are still going up.
Gaming GPUs costing over £2000.
Next gen upgrade packs, which doesnt give you everything. Breath of the Wild being an example.

And the one which gets me is Sony. This is the first time in history, 5 years into a console generation and the console is going UP IN PRICE AND NOT DOWN. On top of that releasing an overpriced, half step generation console which nobody asked for including game devs.

Thankfully most of us have a set release price for the Switch 2 but some countries dont yet they have an release date. For us pre ordering the Switch 2 now, this could be the cheapest it will be. Nintendo Direct for Switch 2 games, people are not responding very well either. Price does have a part to play in that.

I have never seen the games industry so messed up.

So I've not had a Nintendo console since the Wii and fancied getting a Switch 2 but I guess I'm SOL getting a pre-order in at this point?
No, read the last few pages my brother. Preorders are coming up pretty consistently still I think, if you are eligible for direct from nintendo then that's an option, otherwise just set up an alert on Hotukdeals and/or hotstock.

They definitely scrubbed it from many sites last night. It's no error. It was also never listed on the JP site.

Why would VRR not work with a compatible TV when docked?

Im dont understand why it would only work on the portable screen and not when docked. The tech is in there to do it.

Makes no sense does it. I'm not buying one until I know exactly what I'm getting. If all the games are this new higher price I won't need a console for at least another year until some games are available cheaper.

The US has updated all its accessory prices. Their pretax prices are similar to Europe’s post tax prices. Looks like this is Nintendo’s way of compensating for the impact of tariffs without destroying console sales.

Is it confirmed yet if the switch 2 has HDMI 2.1 port or just 2.0?

The video gets reprocessed in the dock, not sure if the fact that it needs this in itself is a problem or if it's something to do with the specific hardware in the dock.

Correct. It's the Realtek chip within the dock that handles DP to HDMI conversion.

However, the Steam deck got VRR working on external displays, so this is really on Nintendo if they can't figure it out.

Could this be that it does support it, but they've changed their minds on shouting about it as a feature only for users to then have issues that are down to their setup and then be dissatisfied? I'm thinking similarly to WiFi link on on quest 2 not being officially supported but actually working fine.

Yeah, feels like we’re in a weird place just now. Hard to believe that 4 years after its launch the ps5 is actually going up in price rather than down. I don’t think that’s ever happened before to a games console?

Personally I don’t think the switch 2 is overpriced for what it is though. The original switch was £280 so it’s not unreasonable to expect a £400 price tag nearly a decade later given how high inflation has been these past few years. Especially as Nintendo has never been keen on selling hardware at a loss like Sony/Microsoft often do.

Is VRR something that can be added via software? If so I wonder if it's just delayed, rather than doing a Sony and launching that half assed beta version.
