People just don't understand that inflation + a company at the top of their game + their best product = price increases, and therefore there's a sense of entitlement for some huge "extra". If the price was lower people would be falling over themselves in adoration.
I think its more about the state of the gaming industry today.
Expensive consoles being released but consumers are seeing very little in return to justify the price.
I have got my Switch 2 pre order down. I have purchased every major game console on release since the original Xbox in 2001 when I first entered the workforce. But I have been gaming since the Commodore 64 and Amiga days.
I have seen a few unexpected, positive things from game manufactures since 2001. Microsoft dropping the price of the original Xbox. Admitting it was too expensive on release. Same with Nintendo dropping the price on the 3DS. Back then game companies responded to gamers.
But today its not about gamers anymore, look at the problems the industry has. Which is basically down to pure greed.
Game companies doing mass lay offs or being shutting down.
Games being released for over £60 then need a bunch of patches before its at playable state months down the line.
Subscription models, price increase over time with services being removed but prices are still going up.
Gaming GPUs costing over £2000.
Next gen upgrade packs, which doesnt give you everything. Breath of the Wild being an example.
And the one which gets me is Sony. This is the first time in history, 5 years into a console generation and the console is going UP IN PRICE AND NOT DOWN. On top of that releasing an overpriced, half step generation console which nobody asked for including game devs.
Thankfully most of us have a set release price for the Switch 2 but some countries dont yet they have an release date. For us pre ordering the Switch 2 now, this could be the cheapest it will be. Nintendo Direct for Switch 2 games, people are not responding very well either. Price does have a part to play in that.
I have never seen the games industry so messed up.
