Why aren't vegans eating the food they ask for?

From my own experience, people that have been vegan have typically become moody depressive people and watching them rebound when they go back to vegetarian/meat is nothing short of miraculous. I'm sure that they were doing something wrong, but honestly most people don't have time for messing around.
So I think a lot of people try their best but ultimately it's a fad with still ultra processed food. And pay ridiculous money for some squished peas....

Also this was all funded with VC money and other muppets. Looking at BYND:US they are down over 98% in share price over the past 5 years. Ouch! :D

A lot of it is processed poor quality stuff same as non veggie just without the animal corpse bits , Animal eaters will try it in Veganuary as they want to be seen as the better people for a while but its all show , they don't have the will power to overcome their indoctrination /
There should be a massive tariff on animal products so they can pay for their own cancer care
my only post here ,enjoy ,i am going over to the on the wagon thread to chuckle at the people who wont have a glass of red on holiday , pats on the back follow, lols

Vegan restaurants are probably a bit too niche to have too many of them.
There are usually enough options at a normal restaurant. Unless you're hardcore vegan and won't eat there.

I'm not vegan but it is rarer I eat meat now. Unfortunately, often vegan alternatives aren't that great. They absolutely can be. But it takes effort.

I'd also say vegan places closing is a nice click bait so probably seems like more are closing. When it's just restaurants in general.

Its an easy luxury to give up, eating out (I mean restaurants!)

I think a lot of vegan stuff is often left because vegetarians like it less, too. For example, my wife is veggie (and I am almost-veggie just out of cooking convenience) which means she will still eat cheese, eggs, dairy etc. However, most of the alternative stuff in supermarkets seems to be leaning towards vegan food, which has some truly horrible dairy replacement ingredients in, making the food utterly horrible. Even things like frozen pizzas that have the meat replacement "fake" pepperoni are all vegan, meaning they don't have real cheese etc. I'd really like some of them to be vegetarian, meaning real cheese but with the fake meats.

Alcohol is far more damaging to health (physical and mental) than meat is. However I respect your choice not to eat meat but I'd never take up this holier than thou attitude that you seem to have.

We can all make a conscious choice to eat better quality foods (meat or not) but the food industry is all about profit and getting the most out of little. Hence the rise of UPF and it's link to obesity.

If you supported people making better food choices regardless of meat or not your stance would be a lot more wholesome and supportive, berating and belittling people on their lifestyle choices is not helpful.

You CAN be healthy being vegan but it does take a lot of effort, but similarly it takes some effort (arguably less) to follow that healthy omnivorous diet. Unfortunately supermarkets and the "big farma" is out to mass produce rather than focus on quality and health. As such good quality food is now more expensive and becoming more unattainable for the poorer of society and they're the ones that suffer most in their diets and health (and the ones that tend to smoke and drink more too).

I know you would rather die on your sword of veganism and your commitment is commendable but you don't have to be disagreeable about it.

Focusing to much on the vegan aspect to be honest. Service and the food industry are shutting down all over the place, not just more specialised foods. Your local place traditional fish and chip stop and you local coffee shops and larger restaurants are all being hit hard from all angles and have been for the last few years. TBH this is the first time I even knew their was a Hamilton backed places so how many outlets are we really talking about here?

Looks like they had a whopping...8 UK locations all in London at their peak, down to 2 by the start of this year. So they're shutting 2 restaurants.
There's a couple in other countries by the looks of it as well.

There was a Vegan factory near where I live. Lasted a couple of years and went out of business owing 6 million in 23.

Heather Mills bought the factory but as of 2025 it is still closed.

When I was managing in a Pizza Factory we also did Vegan Pizza's. Ultra processed rubbish that sold in absolutely tiny amounts. Regular Pizza's must have been producing in favour of 500:1 at least.

Vegan places shutting down all over the place, discounting food. Yet we have an endless supply of £3 chicken and chip shops.....next to each other

I didn't read the thread, but will venture a guess vegans did not ask for ultraprocessed fake meat products.

In the same way I don't yearn for a fake turnip made out of ground beef

Industry is just trying to think of new things to sell

Ah, well 8 stores is still a real effort to a newish market for a dedicated shop. I just don't see their being a big enough market for it though. Then again, theirs FAR more regular meat filled places going out of business etc.
Also started opening in 2019...offff.

The vegan market has always been extremely small. This is obscured by the estimated value of the market, which is high because vegan food is typically expensive even though it's supposed to be simpler and less processed.
