Power blackouts in Portugal and Spain

The preppers will be laughing.
I’m sure it was only recently that general advice was issued across most European countries to have a least 3 days of food in stock and other essential supplies, in preparation for such events.

Advice triggered, I assume, by the expectation that Russia are going to up their game in causing trouble outside of Ukraine.

I've got about 6 kilos of Huel powder in the cupboard... as long as I can find fresh water, i reckon I can ration out, 1000 calories per day at a push, to outlast most people :D

And we thought we had it bad with Heathrow.

Must be multiple monumental **** ups to bring an entire country's grid down (and bits of their neighbours).

You're right, this was big news in Spain only a month or so ago! I remember people laughing at the advice (myself included!). I have more than 3 days food at home anyway, and the only supermarkets I found that were open have semi empty shelves! But I will buy a few extra things once this blows over. A battery powered radio would be a good start......

Still, in my 35 years in London and 12 years in Spain, I don't recall ever hearing of a whole (western) country losing power for an hour, let alone the 7.5 hours of this current outage!

Hopefully it will be sorted in a few hours, I just saw in the news that 41% of Catalonia has power back, but I'm still waiting!

Get a filter, you can drink out of a puddle then!

Our Infra living in Gibraltar is yoyo-ing, but believe it's more so that our connections are routing through Spain than power being hit over there.

Turn on hoping to watch the Madrid Open earlier and today and saw all the matches suspended. Yet live pictures from the site showed there was some power. Sky were broadcasting for instance. I suppose they have some generators.

Did someone’s 4090/5090 connector melt and take down two countries power ? :p

Kidding apart .. Smells like some hack to me or sabotage, but the people that know anything will not spill that one out so quick or it will cause more panic.

Lets hope it won't take a week to restore power as they say in the news right now as this "Rare atmospheric phenomenon" as they put it is meant to hang around for a week.

Hope everyone is safe and gets home safe as said people trapped on public transport would be a nightmare or needing electrical medical equipment working to stay alive..

Atmospheric conditions my bum.
yup...

Solar weather maybe... but none at the moment that can cause this.. Also solar weather will cause radio blackouts, damage satellites and can cause damage to electrical systems from the power grid, lines, transformers and trip the breakers.. and cause fires to break out too.

Carrington event missing... and lets hope we don't need John McClane at airports..

If the power isn't restored by the time the sun goes down they'll need more than John McClane down the Ramblas.
It's already dark here, I imagine the Las Ramblas too! It's surreal seeing the majority of the city dark from my balcony. All the iconic buildings are dark. Police cars everywhere though.

Might try to post a picture, but 5g is still spotty.

There'd be a lot of pillaging in the USA with a mass overnight power outage - like the Purge ? , but in europe civilization rules.

This is the part I can't believe, not even traffic accidents, groups of youths on the street etc, just people sitting outside and "chilling" relatively speaking. tbh London (where i'm from) would be a totally different story.
