A bit out of the loop on screens.
Have 2x 4K @ 120hz displays that with a good bit magic I've managed to talk into working nicely via a hub + single plug to my TB4 equipped laptop.

Making some thoughts around an AMD 9955HX3D equipped laptop as a potential sometime later in the year but I obviously lose the TB4 port and what it brings to the table for screens/better connectivity.

Do any of the 4K ultrawides work nicely on a single USB4? Preferably with options around splitting the screen down in some way (as I quite like a 2nd screen).

Not sure I've understood. Do you mean running the monitor including power from a single USB-C cable via the hub?
If so, I am able to run a small 15" portable 4k 60hz monitor via a single USB-C cable, including power.

I run a Gigabyte M32U (4k 144hz) on a single USB-C cable, but the monitor needs external power via a standard kettle lead.

If I understand what you’re wanting is the ability to remove the hub, which I expect has 2 physical display outputs on it so in your computer can have 2 display outputs via the cable to the hub.
Having a single monitor present itself to windows as 2 physical displays over a single usb connection is not possible that I am aware of.

Many monitors have a picture-by-picture or picture-in-picture feature, but that requires 2 physical cables because the monitor assigns a separate physical input to each of the split screens. Both cables can be plugged into the same computer, which would then detect 2 screens and offer the usual dual monitor options.

The best I think you can do over a single cable into a single monitor will be to use software on the pc to “zone” the single desktop so it acts like separate screens even though you only have one as far as the computer and OS is concerned.

Probably need to check the manuals for monitors with p-b-p/p-i-p to confirm the capabilities of each individual monitor and some manufacturers may provide zoning software for their monitors to try a give a multiscreen experience with a single display.

9955HX3D laptops have TB4. Whichmodel are you looking at? As I don't know one without. The hub will just work as before.

What they don't have is TB5 like the new Intel chips can support if properly configured.

Genuinely believe that's not the case, they (Most AMD base laptops) have USB-C (20Gb) but not TB4 (40Gb).
Model would be a competitor now so do think they don't like mentions in threads.

A tongfang reseller, anyway, not mine.

And... some other bits for clearing it up.
Yeah, a screen that has the pass along USB ports, a lot of the dells used to, plenty others too.

So... with this thought around the AMD laptops not having TB4, and knowing I'm already at limits with current kit (TB4 hub to 2 x USB-C to DP 1.4), looking at a screen that'll do similar (as similar as I can get works) via usb 4 and have a hub in the screen for other bits (just usb).
I could stick a screen in the hdmi and call it a day but really do rather like having a 1 cable setup (and laptop power ofc but needed).

Does 2x4k ultrawide, high hz, USB 4 connectable exist? :D
