Pretty much my situation as well. I think it'll be UDNA for me at this rate. I might be able to get some actual money put aside by 2026.

Same as myself. I’ve a hard limit of 400-450 quid. Neither side has anything I consider worth spending that on at present. The non xt 9070 ‘entry’ models should be at that price point (or their abouts) imo. But both amd and nv are intent on “gouging’ with their supposed mrsps.

You can tell retailers are pushing profits on the boxed cards, seen a well known retailer selling an entire system R5 9600X, 32GB DDR5 6000MT/s, B850 ATX Wi-fi board, 2TB NVMe SSD, and an RX 9070, with a 750w gold rated PSU in a horrible looking case, and peripherals for £999 and 3 year warranty. You could take out the card and sell what is left for £500 easily.

By the sounds of this thread I must be in the minority but I genuinely feel the rdna cards are priced quite well. I paid 690 for my nitro and really didn't feel short changed at all.

It probably cost about the same or less to build than a 7800 XT though, it's roughly the same parts and it's a single die and not multiple different dies so the chip itself is probably also easier/cheaper to manufacture.

AMD could have released a card to rival the 5090 at the £700-800 price point but instead chose not to bother because their mid-range replacement performed so well and could bring in mega profits. All gamers are worse off for it.

Times have changed since COVID with all the quantitive easing. Money is now worth less. Sure I would like cheaper things but I am not that upset by the price of these gpus. I would however be pretty ****** paying 900 for a 5070ti, which is what I would have had to do for a similar quality aib

Admittedly not on OC at the moment although there have been plenty of deals over the last month or so, however, a quick Google search brings some good gigabyte cards at 629

There were numerous deals for as low as £605 (with codes) for XFX models recently.

I think waiting for mainstream retailer adoption with stock on shelves at msrp, you’re going to keep waiting and may never happen. You have to grab a deal when you have the opportunity.

if I was desperate yes but I'm not I don't play enough to justify it and current card still works fine I don't think I would even buy one at MSRP now also AMD card choice is limited don't really like any of them I see xfx is currently at £637.62

Yesterday the XFX white was £605 with a code (now gone) for £630 the Asus Prime is still available. Was/want to wait until sub £600, but may nibble, but then Id have a Asus mobo and Asus GPU, and that would feel wrong.

you still banging that drum, whilst your at it so could have nvidia but they also chose to prioritize profits like most corporate companies do.. the only way prices are coming down is if people vote with there wallets and stop buying them.

... and if people stop buying them then both AMD and NVidia already have more lucrative uses for their limited number of wafers - so they'd be likely to cut-down / stop production of dGPUs.

It seems to me that the existence of dGPUs from the big two is due to them not wishing to completely abandon that market segment (in case they ever need it as their main segment for earnings) - which, given crypto, AI (and for AMD server CPUs) does not seem particularly likely.

indeed, so the realistic outcome is gpu prices are never going to lower back to "what we had 5/10 years ago" and are only ever going to raise due to demand..

why would nvidia or amd want to waste the wafer space on lower revenue parts when they can upsell them at much higher cost..

Exactly - and, if AI ever crashes like crypto did, enterprising individuals are likely to come up with another lucrative use for (transiently) cheap dGPUs - which will lead to the next spike in dGPU prices.

AMD could have released something to match the 5090 but not at £700-£800, the die size needed to match 5090 would be over 700mm^2, that's not going to be cheap. I would love AMD to make 5090 equivalent but that's unrealistic, but I was hoping for something close to the 4090 in performance for £1000-£1100 bracket like a 9080XTX with 24GB VRAM, that would have sold really well. The 9070 for me is not quite a 4k card, but something at the 4090 level is.

I bought one, price lower today, now at £613 (+ I had some balance left from selling some junk, so after some 'man-maths' £540)

Finally called out (whilst I appreciate HUB wanted to wait for things to settle). A truly fake MSRP. Scalping has nothing to do with it. The "MSRP" cards are in stock, just not at MSRP, and therefore not selling out.

Explains all the early rumours of how AMD completely misjudged the 9070 XT price and we heard about the really high prices pre-launch.

At this rate AMD will gain no traction in the market. They will be decimated in the May market share numbers.
