Looking at getting a betta fish for our daughter, can anyone recommend a good 10 gallon fish tank? Any particular brands/smart features?

Just one thing to consider if you have never had fish is that the smaller the tank the faster it goes critical if something goes wrong.
Over feeding, heater failure etc all go nuclear faster the smaller the volume of water.

10 gall is decent for a starter.
For a single betta though people often go smaller

The Fluval flex kit is a really decent bit of kit and probably actually better than a 10 gallon iffy brand.

Really depends how much you want to spend but decent kit will last.
It also looks really nice

They do a larger ones as well

My partner says the filter is too powerful for a betta? Not that we know just something she had read.

Its not the Filter but the pump, to be honest its a Junk pump and I would bin it anyway and get an Eheim Universal 300 as you can reduce the flow speed. It's what I replaced the Fluval one that came with our 60Gal Flex, there are also hundreds of 3d printable outlets on thingverse to reduce the water speed specifically for Bettas.
