Sycamore Gap tree at Hadrian's Wall 'felled overnight'

Judge has given instructions this morning. Jury to go out for deliberations. I don’t think they will take the rest of the day.

depends how good the refreshments are! I'd be fuming if I was on the Jury and there was anyone in the room not happy to send them down.

This is the bit that gets me.

Aye you were on a three hour round trip cos the restaurants in Carlisle are crap!
So worth the drive for the list of bang average chain restaurants and fast food joints on offer, the man is a Comedy genius, I'm slightly disappointed his other half wasn't called to the stand to commit perjury in his defence by backing up the nonsense claim or did I miss that golden nugget!

To be fair they do have a point , me and the missus frequently visit other cities for a day out and a big part of the reason is for the restaurants, there’s restaurants in Carlisle but sometimes we just fancy a change - and tbh there’s not that many restaurants here that are great - it’s a small city with limited choice

I know loads of people who will think nothing of heading over to Newcastle / Gateshead for a meal , it’s pretty normal

A day out is different to a 3 hour round trips to a restaurant, that is definitely not normal here. In fact I don't know anyone who would do that.

During a storm though?

During a storm though?

Depends on how bad the storm is in the area I’m driving I guess but loads of people do drive in storms so it’s not that far fetched

Don’t get me wrong I don’t think for one second they’re telling the truth about what they were actually doing but if a friend or acquaintance told me they had driven to Newcastle in a storm for a meal I wouldnt find it that out of the ordinary

His Mrs had just had a baby as well don't forget
I get the getting out and going for something to eat thing, even if its meh at best, but its also a lot of hastle with a young one, bottle feeding so 3 hour round trip with food gets perilously close to needing to feed whilst out.
And thats ignoring the chances of getting held up etc.

I would understand it if they were going somewhere nice but the destination was a shopping centre full of crappy chain restaurants. It would have been more believable if he’d said we were going shopping and for a bite to eat as driving some distance to a big shopping centre makes much more sense when actually shopping!

They somehow haven’t decided after four hours. Gone home for the day.

I think Graham is obviously guilty with the car on ANPR and photos and the video on his phone.

Carruthers is much more circumstantial unless there is something I’ve missed.

Going to be hilarious if they find Graham guilty and let the one who actually (most likely) cut the tree down off.

Hanging would work but as they've cut the tree down I would hang them from it's a bit awkward.

“I sentence you to hang…”
OH MY GOD!”
“… out …”
… phew… I was worried there…”
“… in Newcastle.” *gavel*
“NooOoOooOooOOOooooooo!!!!”

Jesus this is embarrassing, from start to finish...

All the while companies pretending they're doing people a service get away with chopping down trees that are 'unsafe' and barely anyone cares.
