Hi all,

I have recently made a small jump from the below specs:

9900k > 12700k
32GB ddr4 2000mz > 32GB DDR5 6000mz

I left the GPU as it is, as i only game casually at 1440p. However the old 2080 whilst holding up "ok" could perhaps do with an upgrade.

Looking at second hand, there is a 3080 available on MKT place near me for £299, but could probably squish a little on price.

Since ive been out of the hardware game for a while, would this be a worthwhile upgrade do you think? I can sell the old 2080 to help fund some, and i got about £180 back from selling the old CPU, board and RAM

What you all think?

I'd probably try and save up for card with more VRAM given you're only increasing by 2GB. Even at 1440p now 10GB can sometimes not be enough.

If you had a lesser card I'd be more inclined to say to get the 3080, but I'd rather look for a second hand 4070 Super or something like that and get at least a 4GB uplift in VRAM.

I’d wait another month to see what AMD brings to the table.

Not sure how 5060Ti stacks up against a 3080 but they are £399 new and have 16G and I’m sure AMD will have a similar competitive product in a months time for similar money.

Check benchmarks as a 5060Ti may not be much quicker than a 3080 but important to check what games you play as 50 series can get some solid boost with fancy AI stuff.

Bloke said he would take 270 for it. Can probably chop / sell my 2080 for a chunk of that.
If < £300 is your budget then there's nothing new that could match it, since something like a 7600 XT gets smashed by a 3080. There used to be 6800s around £350, which were a decent deal, but even the 7700 XT (similar performing) is usually well over that now. 6800 XT can match a 3080, but they've pretty much disappeared.

5060 Ti 16GB that Gibbo mentioned isn't that far off in raw grunt, but it'll be at least another £100-£150.

My ideal choice would be a 9070, but instead of the ~£500 odd they're supposed to be, you have to pay £600+.

I think if I had a 2080 I'd be considering both AMD and Nvidia as opposed to flatly Nvidia how it used to be. The 9070 maybe if it drops a bit.

Its a hard choice!!

ive always had Nvidia GPUS really, apart from one many many moons ago - have just always been solid for me, but i guess that has changed a lot over the years

Always just had intel chips and Nvidia GPUS

1440p

180hz.

I sold a 3060ti on here almost two years ago for £215 or so, it still had warranty I was willing to help with. That's around 2080 Super speeds.

I'd question a 3080 for the money you're looking to spend personally.

Ive taken a punt on a B-grade 3080ti so I guess I will see how much of a difference it makes
Should be a nice bump in performance.

Below shows relative against a 2080 as well as other GPUs.

Thanks for that, thats a good site - how ive never come across that before is beyond me!

Hoping that its a decent B grade unit from OCUK - cross your fingers for me!

I hope you made a big offer and didn't pay £1k.

Absolutely!! Im not sure were allowed to say whats been agreed price wise? Hoping its just an open box return, or a DSR return or similar.

Wonder if there is a way to check its previous use or anything at all?
