EV general discussion

Grey on the neighbours id4 , doesn't look worse than skyscraper grey on the others 330e, yes its the monolithic sides on the SUV/id4 that don't do it any favors.

more details on the A390 only 153cm tall, so saloon proportions, sides like an audi s2, 3 motors £60K.
Schadenfreude, I guess large ev depreciation won't go on forever.

Personally wouldn't touch an MG4 no end of issues with them and the dealers are bad - go on some owners forums or facebook groups and have a sniff around.

Same with the I Pace (sorry @bigmike20vt ) way too unreliable.

Out of your pick probably the Tesla is the best bet tbh, but if you can live with an MG4 size car then I'd say the Curpra Born and VW ID3 should be in your budget too for a 2021-22 car

FB Groups and forums for all brands of cars are full of complaints and issues - including Porsche, BMW, Mercedes, Audi etc...
Pretty obvious why - if you have an issue you complain about it, but if the car/item works great you don't go online and post about how good the experience is.

If I based all my buying decisions on online reviews, then I wouldn't buy anything!

whilst I agree with you in principle I do think there are trends and even jaguar themselves admit the last few years were terrible for repairs etc, add to that the flooding where a bunch of customers cars got wrecked etc it's not a good look. that said I do try to temper that in forums such as these that (so far) my jaguar ownership experience has been excellent. currently in the garage now waiting to book my car in (routine service) so let's hope I am saying the same next week ;)

so far in my life I have only owned one money pit lemon... my 2nd fiat coupe. but even that, it just goes to show it's a bit pot luck as my 1st fiat coupe was an incredibly reliable and cheap to run car (sadly not Renault Mégane collision proof :( )

That's just not true at all

Based on the last few cars I've had (which doesn't include the MG4 to be fair!) the volume of complaints on the I Pace group is a lot, lot more than the complaints on the Cupra Born or VW ID Buzz group, not even close.

Oh it was also the 'we're moving warehouse so we have no spare parts inventory at all, you just have to wait 6 months' as if moving a warehouse couldn't be done without 6 months of disruption

Want a steering wheel air bag on an Aston Martin db12? Get ready for a6 month wait.

They're all at it.

This is true.

Although I think the ipace is genuinely a nightmare reliability wise (it's why they are so cheap), and MG do have a notoriously dodgy(or perhaps immature) dealer network.

I've just bought a used MG4 but from my local MG dealer and they are well reviewed and all came across as very good. They also assured me they are one of the few in the area that actually have proper EV trained mechanics. I might be wrong and it could be a nightmare, but if so I just won't touch MG ever again. My prediction is that MG aren't going anywhere and their presence and dealer network will increase and get stronger over the coming years. If they keep churning out decent cheap EVs with a 7 year warranty, they will continue to have success imo. A lot of other manufacturers are just charging astronomical amounts for electric cars (and cars in general) that most can't afford (or at least afford comfortably).

Reliability of any new and complex car now seems to be the luck of the draw. Where I personally see the potential risk or hassle factor with the likes of MG is how well established the dealer network is and how well (or not) the brand itself does customer service.

I've asked MG to look at a number of (minor) annoying issues with mine and they effectively shrugged their shoulders or claimed they had tested the car and found no issue (not possible as some only appear after a certain amount of time driving, which they were made aware of, others are quite sporadic)

Annoying, but it's not ultimately my car, goes back in a year or so and doesn't stop it being driven so have given up till next service. If this was a bigger issue though I'd have very little confidence in them being able to or having the appetite to sort it out promptly which is .....poor.

Having written the above I do recognise that the bigger manufacturers are not necessarily any better, albeit I think you'd be more likely to gain traction by being very vocal and escalating

I'm going to see how it goes with the MG I've just bought. My local dealer appears to be a good one, but it's difficult to know for sure.

It's a car sold by them new, and then traded into them, and it was serviced by them. I hope that gives me a lot of comeback/sway if something goes or is wrong with it, as it's entirely "their" car, as it were.

well my ipace behaved yesterday only advisory was the tyre inflator kit is out of date but I didn't bother replacing. 54000 miles covered (not all by me) and hopefully will be good for another 54000 as i am not planning on selling any time soon.

also came back with a complementary mini valet so that saves me a job this weekend.

car still does within margin of error the range it did when new - it's over 4.5 years old now.

not EV related but my courtesy car didn't turn up and the garage could not get in contact with the person who had it. so jaguar marshalls also covered over £80 in taxi fairs for me so despite something going wrong , it is another positive customer support experience at a Jag dealer for me.

I was taking with a lady about the new jaguar concept. I said I thought it was awful, and she admitted she wasn't a fan either. I said my only hope is it's just a concept and the actual car looks very different however she said unfortunately everything they had heard was that that concept is pretty close to the actual new model :(

We just purchased a new Corsa E Ultimate and so far I’m loving it. First electric car for us and it’s great just waiting on a wall box install from bumblebee as it was offered cheap with the car. It’s 7.4Kw which I think is the norm.

I’m surprised how nice it is to drive compared to the petrol auto we had before.

It’s funny how things work out with test drives. Since testing the Born I have also tried an ID.3 and a Kia Niro. I found both very boring to both look at and to drive. Yet had I tested either before the Born I tested last week, I would probably be happy with either.

It pays to not simply settle for the first car you try that simply seems to hit that “new toy” feel.

I’m going to put a deposit on the Born 77kWh V3 eboost. It is a 2023 model but I don’t find the UI or the lack of buttons annoying at all. It just drives better and looks better than all the other cars I’ve tested recently.

MG4 (did not like the offset steering wheel at all)
ID.3
Niro
BZ4X
Megane E-Tech

With all due respect it sounds like two people who didn’t buy new Jaguars won’t buy the new Jaguar.

Are you getting a good deal on that, they all seem to be about £25k+for V3's of that age.

Was going to link this for you the other day thought it may be out of your budget, colour is 'different'

I think so, they are giving it the 18,600 miles/2 year service and paying half the road tax. £25k and that’s local to me and the only 77kWh version in N. Ireland.

The i4 is nice but one of my criteria was smallish, so the i4 is too big. I appreciate you posting this though.

I really rate the handling and smoothness of the born
