EV general discussion

I think so, they are giving it the 18,600 miles/2 year service and paying half the road tax. £25k and that’s local to me and the only 77kWh version in N. Ireland.

The i4 is nice but one of my criteria was smallish, so the i4 is too big. I appreciate you posting this though.
No head room either. I like the upright sitting of the born. I have a e92 3 series too.

I had the older shape 4 series gran coupe in dirty diesel. It was a great car and I loved it, but I also found it had a slightly offset steering wheel that caused my right knee a lot of pain.

I don’t know of the new i4 still has that. But since then I instantly look for that steering wheel offset. That why I dismissed the MG4 with instantly from my list.

With all due respect it sounds like two people who didn’t buy new Jaguars won’t buy the new Jaguar.
sorry I didn't know peasants who only buy 2nd hand or staff not high enough up to be given one free were not allowed opinions.

that aside.... I don't know anyone what so ever who like the new concept or the new marketing..... and that includes plenty who absolutely think nothing of spending 6 figures on a new car!.

seriously tho.... 2nd hand sales should be of interest because surely even if you only really care about new sales, a healthy 2nd hand market with good residuals will make buying the new car more attractive and even for leases will be factored into the monthly cost

I would not buy a new car but given the experience I have had so far of my current one, if it continues I would be in the market for another 2nd hand jaguar in the future.... but not if the concept is anything to go by

It’s funny how things work out with test drives. Since testing the Born I have also tried an ID.3 and a Kia Niro. I found both very boring to both look at and to drive. Yet had I tested either before the Born I tested last week, I would probably be happy with either.

It pays to not simply settle for the first car you try that simply seems to hit that “new toy” feel.

I’m going to put a deposit on the Born 77kWh V3 eboost. It is a 2023 model but I don’t find the UI or the lack of buttons annoying at all. It just drives better and looks better than all the other cars I’ve tested recently.

MG4 (did not like the offset steering wheel at all)
ID.3
Niro
BZ4X
Megane E-Tech
Join the Born club haha

We have a 58kWh v1 with the smallest wheels, the best ride of all the models. We also tested ID3, e-Niro, Kona, MG4, and also had an e-208 and a Zoe before that. The Megane wasn't out yet when we got the Born but that would have been a decent option I think.

Calm down. I’m just stating facts. I’m banned from the actual Jaguar thread so you’ll have to forgive me for using your post as a platform.

Won’t be long now for the real cars to appear :)

I guess there are a lot less options in NI to chose from. Doesn't look too bad from a depreciation pov either, probably £14-16k over 5 years, and I guess if you are buying out right you can sell it if you get sick of it no longer fits your requirements.

Hadn't appreciated it was seen in the great outdoors at Paris fashion show and then Monte-Carlo

tool for the job, if you had those nice roads to drive on, corvette lights, and frame construction

True. Personally I didn't think the Born was all that much better than the MG4 to drive (if at all). The interior was definitely nicer though granted. If I didn't want speed/fun I'd have probably gone for a V2 Born or something, but the MG4 Xpower won it for me from a fun standpoint. The VZ borns are still too expensive to buy, and the non Vz borns are positively snails in comparison to the Xpower.

The Born would definitely have been my choice if I wasn't craving the power/acceleration.

My shortlist is down to Born and Nero EV. The longer (and better?) warranty of the latter is pulling me in that direction. Also it is slightly larger which is a bonus.

Cant keep up if your are after new, if so have you looked at the EV3?

Not new. Would be around 1-3 years old. As most of depreciation would be done at this stage.

EV3 costs way to much right now and higher insurance cost relative to the Born and Nero EV. If I was looking to get a car in 2 years time EV3 would definitely an option as prices would come down to a range i am happy with.

You may be aware, but if you pick up a 24 Cupra born (I think registered after beginning of April or something) they come with a 5 year warranty. So depending on prices/age between the Niro and Born you get, warranty may be similar.

I recall reading this yes. Still works out less warranty than Nero EV which as 7 and also I believe servicing is cheaper on the Kia.

Generally speaking I feel I would have less issues with Kia. But I could be wrong.

Rwd vs fwd tbh. Depends what you want. A car that gets you from a to b. Or a car that gets you from a to b with a least a bit of involvement on the way

I am not to bothered about it tbh. More concerned with it being reliable. I plan on keeping for longer than just 3 years. A lot more ideally. Hence I am thinking Kia Nero EV is the way to go.

If it were my first EV, and you are just trying something first time around I'd look at something like the below, and keep it a couple of years as you'll lose very little

Plenty warranty remaining, fully battery health and battery still in warranty, top of the range 4+ spec. Either give it a good interior valet your self, or pay someone and it'll come up like new (probably).
