EV general discussion

thought i'd ask here as it's more pertinent to EV users than the leccy thread.

anyone on IOG can answer this for me, as a newbie IOG user please?
my first full month on IOG just gone...
i've done 100% of my EV charging on a greener night last month...when do i get my octopoints?

Took out the Renault 5 today, loved the drive not so keen on the interior quality. The one I drove has an interior rattle/buzzing which drove me absolutely mental trying to find it. My wife said it wouldn't bother her, she would have the radio on but I couldn't put up with it. Made me question the interior quality so despite how much I love the car I'm not sure it's for me. I think I'm going to pass on electric for me at this point because I cannot find one in anything like £100 a month more than what my current cars costs with anything like the interior quality or general build quality. We will instead get the Kona for the Mrs and see how we get on.

It's an el cheapo hatch back - its not going to have great interior quality.

What price point are you trying to hit? Didn't you say you were looking at new cars, did you look at any lease deals?

I have never even seen that screen, how did you get to that? I can't charge when I want anyway. As soon as I plug the car in the charger works out a schedule with IOG and I have no say in it. I had daytime slots again this afternoon at the cheap rate.

Got a nailed on date for the iX3 finally.

13th May, 1 month after I was supposed to get it.

Apparently 400 cars were put on a campaign hold or something for software updates and it was taking the Southampton VDC ages to clear them and mine was part of that.

Indeed but it's more expensive than my mini from the end of 2023 and doesn't get close to the quality of any materials. If I then have to spend another 15k to match the quality, well I guess that's what I'm struggling with.

I don't have a price point or budget just shopping and trying various cars and if I find one that's worth the extra over what my mini cost per month I will buy it. Yes I've looked at a ton of lease deals and only the Kona really works for my wife so far.

Maybe looked at a used Mini not a new Renault?

But you mentioned within £100 of what you are paying, so what are you paying currently?

I only look at TCO from start to end - so hard to know what you want without more data.

It's ok we found a car for my wife which was the main objective. I just tagged along and tried to see if I could find something to swap into.

I pay £240 a month. 5 door Cooper sport full leather interior. I would look at used/new mini's if the interior didn't have that ****ing awful fabric **** on the dash, proper leather not that vegan leather cop out ****. I also do not know why they didn't make a 5 door version and make use of the slightly longer and bigger boot. I primarily want another smallish car, interior almost on par with what I have and if it's more than £350 a month I'm happy to concede defeat at this time that there isn't a better car for me at this point.

Again I was a sub plot in this car finding journey so my job here is done :)

No such issues with mine, a loose bit of trim somewhere can happen with virtually any car. I think the interior quality is rather good for its class, certainly better in most areas than my Leon.

I used to insist on full real leather interiors as I mistakenly assumed the look and feel conveyed “quality”. Though I came to dislike full leather interiors, real or otherwise due to the significant discomfort of it being too cold in winter and too hot in summer.

The fake dynamica suede like material in my Cupra Born v3 is perfect. It looks and feels great and never overheats on a warm day and I have not once had to use the heated seats in winter.

That fake suede is fantastic for a short period of time if you are keeping the car for a short period of time. It doesn't wear well at all. My wife has Alcantara and I wouldn't ever want it again. I have it on the very edges of my mini seats but not a part you actually sit on so they look like new.

I have heated seats so never have an issue with the cold leather in winter or even thought the seats were hot in the summer. To be fair though I never use the heated seats either but my son turns them on any time he gets in the car :D

What are we calling short? The material on my vRS was immaculate at 5 years old and 70,000 miles.

if you've already need a charger for wifes car, and have 90milel/day £300/pm petrol bill, doesn't a £250pm fuel saving enable you to sit in a better quality ev and offset it's other ownership costs,
like a ford capri @£450pm just beneath super tax, with efficient 550 motor ... just looked over one in red at supmkt.

Give it a while, his new post will be:

I used to insist on fake suede interiors as I mistakenly assumed...
