Today i thought I would re-enact my childhood memories of being on holiday at Weston super mare. In 1953 it was the treat of all treats.
Dad had bought his first car (a van) A pre war morris ex GPO van.
So found a old deck chair from out of shed -put it up on lawn but had to put stakes in and cable ties to hold it up.
Went in loft (bloody hot in there) to find my memoir box because in there was a old pair of swimming trunks my Mom knitted me for paddling in the sea. - Next was a white vest and finally large hanky.
Took clothes off and started with trunks -My legs were OK as they are skin and bones but had trouble with bells and bonger which was soon sorted. Got wife to tuck them in because she has cold hands and as soon as she touched they contracted down to nowt. Now the vest not so bad but gut struggled but a bit of cussing and pulling soon got it on.
Now hanky - tied a knot in 4 corners and put it on my head. All read to go.
Time 1.45 -so lay down on deck chair and took in the sun -It won't be long now and it will be just like our holidays. Time 2.00 -getting a bit hot but give it time.
2.30 - can't stand this so came in and looked on PC - Oh no- Today at 2.00 it was supposed to throw it down with rain and nothing even like it was going to rain. -This isn't how it was at Weston super mare in 1953. It rained and all you could see was sand right out to no where.
So once again the BBC has lied to us. Can't they ever get anything right for once.
Yes I am bored.

We spend the first 20 years of our lives experiencing all of these wonderful and interesting new things. We then spend the next 50 years chasing the nostalgia like a junkie who has built up tolerance, often spending a fortune in the process. This hit me when I saw a group of mods in Cardiff, all in their seventies. They were stood around their immaculate Lambrettas with chrome mirrors and the like, all the gear obtained at great cost no doubt, in their army green jackets and doc martins. They all looked miserable. Chasing the feeling of youth that was long extinguished.

What I have just written has depressed me. I’m sorry.

Aye cheers for that - any one got a noose handy!!

When I get to retirement age, I'm buying one of those original mini's just like my first 2 cars I ever owner. And just like the olden days I'll be tinkering with the points and plugs. Enjoying every minute of scraping the skin off my knuckles..... Can't wait :D

I'd get one while you can, depending on how long you have until retirement might not be many left.

Plus sorry to be a downer but not all of us make it to retirement or reach it in good shape so might as well get on with it.

Welp, that's enough internets for today.

I have very fond memories of going to Weston a couple of times a year for training courses and spending many happy evenings in the Cabot Bar (long before it was a Wetherspoon pub).

That is one car I never wanted -My first car was a Ford Zoiac Mk2 I bought for £75. All my mates had angle boxes (Anglias)

8 yrs out of WW2 money was still in short suppply so it was still make do and mend. -Yes woolen swimming trunks - they got heavy when wet.
I can still remember the reg number of that first car ELO301. :)

Blimey, I'm not that seasoned, and still have a few years left till retirement.

I do recall mooching around the local garage/spares shop when an old bloke turned up in a rusty old mini having just failed it's MOT test. He was unhappy about the cost to repair it, So....I bought it off him there and then for £35. And dumped it on my mum's drive for more tinkering..... I was super excited when I found a tuned cooper head head fitted to it, which went straight on my running car :D

God I was young and easily pleased.
