*** The Official Nintendo Switch 2 ***

Looks like the spec leaks are official.

* 8 X ARM A78C cores, only 6 available for games, clocked at 1.1ghz. However this clockspeed is chosen for heat and battery savings, the cpu is able to reach 1.7ghz if the user was able to tinker with it like the switch 1

* Nvidia Ampere T239 GPU with 1536 cores, clocked at 1007mhz. However like the CPU, the GPU can actually reach 1400mhz if the user could tinker with the software.

* 12GB LPDDR5X memory, clocked at 3200mhz. 9GB is available for games.

* Nvidia also added a custom decompression chip to the board, this speeds up game loading times from the MicroSD storage

* VRR is only available in handheld mode, no VRR support when docked

* DLSS support is for version 3 and also DLAA

You can use non-Express cards, but they won't be compatible with Switch 2 games that require faster data transfer rates. So for example, you could have a non-Express card with old Switch 1 games installed and they'd run just fine ( assuming the games are on the Switch 2 compatibility list for emulation ) but downloading a digital Switch 2 game from the e-store onto the card ( as opposed to the internal SSD ) wouldn't function at all.

I don't think that's correct

Important information

  • Inserting a microSD card that has been previously used on a Nintendo Switch console into a Nintendo Switch 2 console will not allow you to save or load digital games or save data.

Ok, well they have changed that then. Not the first detail they've redacted eg. VRR capability. According to the link other media can still be read and played from standard microSD cards. I guess there must be some quirk they've found with emulation ( they've been slow with testing compatibility ).

I pre ordered the GameCube controller just now and noticed Nintendo will allow me to pre order the console. So if anyone was still looking they could try there

It's gone now i think.

Not surprised, think it went into HDUK by a karma farmer once people caught wind of it

Just came to this thread to post that I've managed to get a pre-order in! So interesting to read. Just had the confirmation email come through in the last few minutes.

I have been checking casually Amazon & Nintendo UK Store and hopefully my new pre-order will stick. I have noticed in the past few days the Switch 2 appear for pre-order at Amazon 3, or 4 times but it always fails when trying to place the order. Then the price disappears etc. So I wonder if people are cancelling pre-orders, or generally this thing is going to be in reasonable healthy supply/resupply.

I'd previously managed to pre-order the Gamecube controller weeks ago when that first open to general public. So just the Pro 2 controller left to buy if I need it. I suppose screen protectors and stuff as well.

Thanks for the reminder, I will order the Pro 2 controller.

Question, is the GC controller worth getting? I am always kicking myself not getting the SNES one.

I suppose it depends on how much you're a fan of GC, or intending to use the GC service. I only ever bought the NSO N64 controller and that is still new in box if I'm honest. I have however used some third-party stuff on Switch; Retro Fighters Brawler 64 NSO Edition and the 8bitdo SF30's via their GBros. adaptor for Wii/GC controllers. All worked well from what I remember. But then I then to use a lot of 8bitdo stuff for MiSTer so it's invaluable and I own it anyway.

I'll get one, but then I still have 3 x Wavebirds, one new OG GC Controller and one new Smash Wii U black Nintendo GC controller. So bit of a fan! Nothing like the excitement of a new console to overspend.
