Doom - The Dark Ages (2025)

@TNA As I expected, 5080 oc is similar to a 4090 :p Depends a lot on the scene though, most of the time, pretty much the same then 4090 higher in some scenes and then the 5080 oc higher in other scenes, although not really like for like given 5800x3d vs 9800x3d.... Just goes to show how the 5800x3d has to be one of the best purchases for am4 platform, incredible it still keeps up with the current gen cpus although obviously less of an issue at 4k but still...

Yep. Sometimes I get tempted to get one for a bit of a change to keep me going until AM6 platform comes out.

I will do a full system upgrade for that one. New case, cpu, mobo, ram and psu :)

Still rocking my AM4 from 2017 with a 5800X3D, crazy.

And it was £300 in today's money for a high-end Crosshair Hero board, more than double that in some cases these days.

And on the Arc B580

What overlay is that for the stats?

Zero second loading times, zero stutters, zero frame pacing issues, zero crashes, zero lag if you ALT+TAB back to Windows, zero input latency with FG, zero issues with frame drops when in fights containing enough demons you can't count them all, all at maximum settings, all whilst maintaining over 100fps and often hitting the 224fps cap (with 2x FG) or ~135fps without.

Are we living in a twilight zone or something what is this efficiency and wizardry....

Good development and technologies working together? And not obsessing with short termism/shareholders?

Good drivers maybe.

No surprises at all, idtech it's just a fantastic engine.

Ive had a quick play on this - very impressive engine, looks amazing, very smooth and fast, very quick loading times but - Ive played this a million times before and am finding it a bit boring, Ive just finished the first level and turned it off.

Yeah it's defo a gamepass game not a £60+ game, even if the engine is an awesome showcase.

Id have always been wizards of technology.

Why aren't other developers using the ID tech engine instead of the turd that is Ue5?

I've not had anything to do with the latest incarnations of the idtech engines but generally because the tool chain is less developed than Unreal Engine and a bit more DIY approach needed, often with a bit more requirement to know what is going on under the hood than UE.

Just did chapter one before having to leave as bits to do but I can’t say I was super impressed but not put off either.

I’m playing it via game pass. Need to do some more chapters before judgement

I must be missing something, or I've not progressed far enough. Fired it up for 5-10mins to see how it runs, so only really seen the opening section, but game isn't really striking me as a graphical masterpiece on DLAA/Ultra Nightmare the GFX feel very console like and bland, in a lot of ways reminds me a lot of the leaked Doom 3 engine many years ago.

Big Doom Eternal Fan here with over 200+ hours.

Fired it up this morning for a quick performance check. Runs silky smooth on my setup @ Nightmare 3440x1440 (165hz) running at around -/+ 90fps.
Are people using Frame Generation? Given Doom Eternal is a quick game, why would you want to additional latency?

What is everyones FOV setting with 3440x1440 ultrawide? I can't seem to get it right, tried both 90 and 120.
