Motorsport Off Topic Thread

Odd that a site as semi-reputable as MSN would publish something like that.

It's reposted from the Daily Express, most of MSN's stuff is just aggregated, and the Daily Express is just reposting it from an Austrian source (in German). I don't know OE24 but they seem to be an Austrian tabloid, no idea how reliable they are in general.

I'll believe it when I see it though. Horner is ingrained in to the fabric of RB. Perhaps Mateschitz really was the glue that held all the various factions together.

I won't be too surprised, although he has own powerful backers within the organisation, ultimately the greatest defence is winning. When they were storming in consecutive WDCs and WCCs then he was protected by that success. But now the team is haemorrhaging key staff and not looking likely to win the season, the reputational cost of protecting the sex pest at the top doesn't seem so worthwhile. If he does go, I won't be surprised to see him return to F1 with another team: his record is fantastic. He took a struggling Jaguar team and turned it around into 8 WDCs and 6 WCCs over twenty years.

That article basically repeats all the fake stories on social media. Seems very unlikely that Horner would go because of bad performance and extremely unlikely that Oakes or Tost would replace him.
The only way Horner could go imo is if it was part of a settlement to avoid the court case happening in January.
There could also be more evidence coming to light as a result of preparation for the case. If there is merit in it, then RB themselves would look extremely bad in the light of having had all those internal investigations and still dismissing the allegations. Of course RB could dress it all up how they like.

For those that missed the Lego race in Miami (sorry, driver's parade) they've finally uploaded an official cut of it with all of the onboards. Pretty fun;

He's done pretty well in WEC, and I think Haas having 2 rookies wasn't a great start for his F1 career. He didn't really show much promise, especially when compared with the current rookies, but maybe he's in a better place now.

I think he showed midfield talent. But he's very highly rated for his development skills and work ethic, which could be what Cadillac is looking for, I guess.

Its hard to say how much there is in any of the rumoured Cadillac drivers; Perez was basically on the cusp of being announced in Miami if you believe the press (never happened obviously)... and indeed there now seems to be serious suggestions Perez could pop up at Alpine next season.
As for Mick well his uncle hasn't opened his mouth about it so you never know, there could be some truth in it.

The way Alpine are going through staff I wouldn't be surprised to see him lining up there for a few races at some point this season.

Cadillac could do worst than use the "Schumacher" name though

A interesting video about McLaren's (possible) brake magic from the guy who did his PHD on phase changing materials while working for them a couple of years ago:

Looks like this has been ruled out by the FIA inspection of their braking system and clarification of the rules. Just clever use of air, and better heat management in the first place.

Indeed, other teams might do well in trying to copy Mclarens system if they can. But I'm sure they probably will be.

Looks like they're working on it. Although I suspect that it isn't something they can simply pull out and plug into their cars; it will work as part of a larger whole.
