Your bad driving encounters

My one today has yet again been people who dawdle then speed up as or after you've overtaken them.
First was a guy in am sq7 who drove at 40 in a 60 and then when we hit a 40 floored it like his backside was on fire.

Wednesday I was getting a lift with my dad so unfortunately no dashcam - the car 2 in front of us was dawdling around, bit of open NSL came up and the car between us went to overtake and only then did the other car start to speed up - could literally see the way they woke up, reacted to the driver overtaking by speeding up and then realising and slowing down but it turned what should have been a safe overtake into a near miss with traffic which then appeared the other way having to slow down to let the overtaking driver finish the overtake.

I have zero tolerance for people like that, even if in this instance they very obviously realised moments later.

Saw a scary number of people not paying attention to the road yesterday, at least 2 of them blatantly on their phones. One driver behind me I was on the verge of stopping to get them in front of me when they fortunately turned off - multiple times got really close behind me before realising how close they were - frequently seeing them turned to look at someone or something in the back seat, twice leaned over to something in the passenger footwell, etc.

Had a close call today. I was already on the M11 northbound as I joined from the north circular but where the M25 joins the M11 it can be a bit troublesome sometimes because two lanes of traffic filter into one.

I stay in the middle lane to let people merge in but this numpty in a van merges in then decides to undertake me, swerves into a non existent gap and then brake checks a 44 tonne lorry.

I give him a flash of the lights just to let him know and despite his stupidity and lack of safety awareness to anyone around him. He gives me the middle finger in his mirror.

What makes him even more stupid is his company is plastered all over his van so left them a 1 star Google review and told them I am sending dashcam footage to the police. (I am not doing this but a little scare might change him).

Was in the middle lane of the m6 yesterday about 3 ft behind a lorry who was in the left lane , I was doing 70 and just about to pass them , (they were doing probably 55-60)

They suddenly swerved across into the middle lane forcing me to slam on the brakes , I can only assume they did this because just ahead there was signs up saying left hand lane was closing in 800 yards so they thought ok let’s just change lanes now without even considering the traffic around them

Had my wife and her son with me too so The rage in me was strong I tell ya

Edit - comprehension fail on my part. Apologies

A late post but worth mentioning how much more one has to be attentive on a Motorcycle. Returning from work it was first time going on M60 > M56 last week. For context I prefer M62 > M6 as traffic is saner and I personally find drivers are more attentive, regardless of whether I am driving or riding. I took the former route as M6 was showing as delayed when I was about to set off. Cue in a Lorry on M60, it probably was new is my guess as it didn't have any trailer attached. Lorry is in first lane and I am in the middle. No one is ahead of him but the guy swerved a little to the right and went over the lane (this happened twice very quickly. I was about a car's length behind in my lane and catching up. Proper heart in mouth moment for me. Slowed down and my thumb was straight on the horn. I was super annoyed, but calmed down quickly and just gave a wave to the guy as I went past as I didn't want any altercation and I never do. I am certain he was on his phone.

As others have observed above it is getting crazy with the phone usage while driving/walking. Saw a lady in a Merc ML SUV, turn right after the lights and her head went straight into her phone. This morning a lady stepped out on the yellow flashing lights zebra crossing and was surprised one car didn't stop. She was looking at her phone at the time of crossing on a busy street. Even after the car not stopping, which it should have tbh as the pedestrian was on their side and clearly visible, the lady continued to cross the road still looking at her phone. How important is that device and whatever you are doing with it while a road crossing? These people will only learn when something life changing happens.

Also, curse those people who parallel park on the side of a narrow busy road with their wheels turned out. Just waiting for an incident to happen when another vehicle clips the wheel. Just lazy and stupid to not keep the wheels straight after parking.

More fun in Morrisons car park last night, I swear people think the rules go out of the window as soon as they enter a car park :D

I'm parked where the white car is, ready to leave.
She's roughly where the red car is, driving down the road.

I check and she's not indicating, so I pull out and follow (roughly) the path of the red line, she then pulls into the side road, massively swinging onto my side of the road, not looking where she's going at all and I had to swerve almost into the bollards to avoid her driving into me - fortunately she did look up just before she hit me, stopping roughly where the green box is

Then has the cheek to roll down her window and ask "wtf are you doing you stupid ****" So I suggested she get her indicator bulbs changed as they didn't appear to be working. The sheer lack of self-awareness from some people is mind-boggling.

And yes, partially my fault as the usual standard of driving round here means I should have anticipated her turning in without warning :(

Having to stop 20ft short of a turning as some tit drives down the wrong side of the road because they're the most important person on earth (or have their head firmly implanted up their backside) is one of the most irritating things I come across

In similar context seeing so many people now who only indicate as they are starting their manoeuvre...

This infuriates me more than people who don't indicate at all.

If you're not indicating, then you're a bit of a **** as it's probably just down to laziness (combined with a side order of not giving a **** about other people).

If you indicate part way through your turn, it means you're literally too ******* stupid to understand what the indicators are for.

Hint: They are to "indicate" (hmm.... maybe that's where the name comes from...) your intentions. If you're already 3/4 of the way into your turn, I reckon your intentions are already pretty ******** clear!

I think this is one of my weaknesses/blind spots when driving though - anticipating when people will do stupid and/or unreasonable and/or lazy and/or incompetent and/or distracted things when driving - my instincts even now are to assume people are driving mostly to the highway code and in a reasonable manner :s and I can be a touch slow reacting when they don't.

Just nearly had a head on with a stupid old **** driving the wrong way down a dual carriageway. He knew he was going the wrong way and instead of stopping and turning around kept going.

This is getting really common now. People are indicating as they are making the direction change (be that at a junction or changing lanes on a dual carriageway/motorway).

I know that they know where they are wanting to go so, in their head, they have given everyone else plenty of time to respond "coz I had my indicator on" - yes you did, about 0.1 second before you made the move!!

Had a woman involved in a crash with one of our buses a few weeks back, basically pit-maneuvered herself, using our bus as the pit vehicle Police were called (by her) because she thought she was completely the innocent party of course

CCTV shows only indicate for 2 seconds, whilst she was only half her car in front of our bus yet she claimed she was 'well in front and indicating for a while & the bus sped up to stop her from getting in'

Long story short, she still thinks she's right despite the fact that she's been charged with due care. I have a feeling she's the type that will push it to court and get a very big shock

Sometimes its obvious that they are going to move lane (from 1 to 2 or 2 to 3 anyways) - when you are approaching them in the lane they want to switch into, you can the reflection of them constantly checking their door mirror and then indicate and turn at the same time.

If you are constantly checking your door mirror (as in basically staring into it), you have made the decision you want to move over so why the hell have you also not put your indicator on? Its obvious you want to move over!!

Saw someone turn left at a red light. I initially thought they had forgotten to brake in time. They stopped ahead of the stop line and then proceeded to carry on anyway. This is very close to a hospital btw so if there was an emergency vehicle approaching on the wrong side of the road this wouldn't have ended nicely.

Both me and the Van driver in the adjoining lane shook our heads.

Car was a Hyundai Bayon, was the first time I saw on the road.

On another note, saw a balaclava clad being on an electric bike going past staring at me while I was nearing my workplace on my Motorcycle. Will be checking all day randomly from the office window to keep an eye on the bike.
