Now you mention it, it may well have been that interview.
I've just watched back the interview and he doesn't say what you thought. Along the lines of what I said a sensible club would do, he says at the higher age groups the players need to work to the ideas of the first team but at the younger age groups it's just about learning the game.

The interview was also many months ago though and I've no idea if Utd have made changes to how the u17/21's etc play and if not, why not.

Spurs are slowly but surely losing all their players before the EL final. Its all coming up United boys! :p

Bilbao lost quite a few players between the 1st and 2nd leg and we struggled more against their 2nd string so it means nothing :p

Another 5 interviews for Amorim to do . He must be so sick of it. It's not like the journo's even ask any interesting questions - in all honesty the quality of questioning is god damn awful. At least the Rashford ones have stopped for a week. Beth Tucker from the United Stand actually asks some decent ones when it's a European game.

Anyway, I watched an interesting video on Youtube today which detailed what Amorim went through at Sporting in his first summer. 25, yes 25 players moved one, some sold, some released and a majority loaned out. They won the league the next season. Not saying that's possible but it gives context to his recent comment about being very brave in the summer.

I must have missed that video, I follow Sam on YouTube as well.
From that video we can see some of what Amorim is doing at Utd like he did at Sporting at the start, dropping, loaning players not suited or don't put in effort. Adding into that he has now started to play some academy players, which I will assume either get loaned out or used pre-season. I fully understand whats hes doing and has my backing, now, over to Ineos to get the crap out this summer and get those profiled players in.

I would genuinely wee myself if he did win the Prem next season though.

Also, I would like to imagine where we would be in the table if we had a goal scorer. How many chances did Hojlund, Garnacho, Zerkzee, hell, even Rashford squander. Either from not passing to a better positioned player or just by being **** in front of the goal. From memory, we should have won clearly at least 5 games but either we drew or lost, so lets say 10 points dropped there. I reckon at least another 4-6 games we should have at least a draw instead of losing.

What you think, I think we should have another 15-18 points. At least mixing it with forest, Brentford, Brighton etc. A goal scorer, or lack there of has let us down big time.

It's certainly hard to imagine another season as poor as this one. I still don't like the hunger and intensity of the team 90% of the time. It's second best in too many games but you'd like to think that that can be improved with two or three additions but it really does require a big clearout. Players like Shaw, Lindelof, Eriksen are journeymen that would never get in other top teams. I also think we may underestimate just how neutering it is to constantly play Garnacho and Hojlund who are inexperienced, don't play well together and are not really facing any competition for starts. I just hope we see a change in attitude and application. That's the minimum.

Its an almost impossible question to answer. Its a bit like the "take X out of your time and where would you be". Would many of their goals disappear? Would the team play completely differently and be better? Would the other players chip in with more goals? Would they genuinely have a horrible time?

I think that based purely on xPts which as far as I know is just a basic xG based stat, we are about 10 points worse off than we should be which would put us 8th. As you said however, the number of times we get into good positions and complete blow a chance up due to a **** final ball, poor decision making or the inability to make a simple pass is ridiculous. These are the things that better players convert. This is also why I don't think things are as bad on the field as some are suggesting. Our issue is players at the moment. We don't have enough quality in the forward players and thats what wins you games.

I think that with 3-4 decent additions we will be looking easily at top 6 unless it all goes wrong.

I think that hunger and desire come when the players are rewarded for it. Very few teams that aren't playing towards something are super motivated every game. You have to be going for that top 4 place. The title etc. I think with a few good incomings this summer who are energetic and have some quality and if we start the season well then things will be fine.

The equivalent of what he did in that second season (borderline miracle) is probably finishing 4th in the EPL next season, given the quality of the other teams and the lack of quality players at his disposal and the untested formation (although is this year a test of it??).

Are 3-4 decent additions realistic though? Surely not. Especially if they're going to be tight around funds. It's going to be the MUFC tax again. That's £200-250m surely? At least?

So I guess we have to brace for finishing 10th or there abouts next season?

Better than relegation, I guess :p
