Your bad driving encounters/irritations

Someone managed to go into the back of me yesterday. I stopped at the end of the road and was going to turn right, nothing was coming from the rightso i went out to the middle and stopped as a car was coming from the left. Then *bang* as the van behind me hit.
Got out and the guy apologized said it was the second time he had done that recently!?!?. Didn't seem to be any damage so i didn't get his details. It was only when i get to where i was going that i noticed this panel seems to have popped out a bit.

Bit annoying really. I assume its ok to drive it like this? MOT and service due in July so i will mention it then and see if they can do something unless theres something that should be done sooner?
Is it worth telling insurance as a notification and no claim?

If you don't have the guy's details or registration then it can only end up costing you IMO. Probably cheaper to repair off your own back, if it doesn't just pop back in.

Yea thats what i was thinking. I did manage to get the bottom half back in but the top part won't go. I'll mention it when i take it for mot/service.

bad driving encounter.... me!. I had an absolute mare this morning.

on way to work my car would not connect to android auto so, thinking it was the car and at traffic lights i shut the car down. it was a daft thing to do but its an ev and starts in a few seconds however for what ever reason the lights changed green right away, only on red for a few seconds and in my rush i could not get the car to start and when it did i could not get it into drive (foot on the brake - i know this i have done it 100s of times over the last 3 years but was in a fluster)
The guy behind me was incredibly impatient and was on the horn right away. i got it going after a few seconds and put hand up to apologise and then - bear in mind i have been driving purely automatics for 3 years, i put my foot on the "clutch" to change gear - which then meant i proceeded to do an emergency stop. The guy behind me went apoplectic!. i think maybe he thought i did it deliberately because he was tailgating me after my traffic light drama.

ultimately all my fault. i guess this is what it is like to be a doddery old fool!.

(and it wasnt even my car at fault. my phone had crashed!)

Why not wait until it's clear from both directions, like you're supposed to?

It's a problem created from two poor habits - one habit of half pulling out when the way ahead isn't fully clear to do so yet, one habit of following another car without looking, assuming it will complete the expected manoeuvre.

I don't personally like it when people pull half way across the road, if you're that oncoming car from the left there's always that brief moment 'ffs, are they really about to pull straight across me' before you can see if they're going to stop or cut you up because they've run out of patience.

The van driver also said this was the second time he had done that recently and seemed proud that he had a plastic/pvc (can't remember) bumper on his van otherwise there would have been a lot more damage to my car.

Strange..

Because it's a "ROUNDabout", not a "straightoverabout", and while it might be "cool" to take the racing line, it's also a bad habit to get into for that one time where you're not paying full attention and miss the motorbike to your right...
it's mechanical sympathy/economy and comfort for passengers/myself - but yes with newer audi / modern(safer) cars the blind spots are increased and that requires more attention/checking,
whether car blindspot monitoring would give you a clear assessment of a bike approaching at a vast rate of knots.

Would be interesting to get a driving assessment (or if advanced driving test is a thing that would reduce premium?),
always interesting/worrying to catch yourself out when you realise you hadn't noticed where the car behind turned off.

We’ve all had those moments I bet. Yet (not aimed at you) we will have people insist “the car just shot forward by itself”. This is especially bad in a powerful EV with instant torque.

I used to think the biggest ding-dongs on the road were those who braked for average speed cameras but they are now being demoted to second place and I'm promoting the pointless tailgater.

We all know the type, the ones who tailgate in a solid row of traffic. The ones who tailgate a car in lane 1 despite there being no other cars around and no reason not to overtake. The ones who sit centimetres off your chuff while passing a row of traffic only to creep past at a 1 mph speed differential when you get a chance to pull over.

This is so ridiculously common on the roads now that I pretty much expect it the majority of the time. They get added ding-dong points if they are the type who weave left and right while tailgating the car in lane 3 with half a mile of solid traffic in front of them.

I've also noticed a massive rise in correlation between diesels that are spewing **** out of the exhaust and the driver being a danger to all those around. Perhaps their carcinogenic emissions are being sucked back into the cabin and messing with their brains.

Drove past a guy earlier with massive sheets of plywood or MDF tied down to the roof of his estate car. He had his right arm out of the window attempting to hold the boards down. :D :D

last year I travelled with estate boot lid tied down and a 3m ladder set tethered in the car, in, up to the dashboard.
.. ladder owner warned me but nonetheless it surprised me that petrol exhaust gases were sucked back, so I had to drive with windows down .. another reason I need a bev
