They’ve got better players though. Their players are on the up. United are on the down or not good enough.

Palace will struggle to hold onto their players.

United will struggle to get rid of their players.

Huge difference.

Yes but the comment was that the 3421 system doesnt work in the PL but Palace are doing ok with such a system. Of course players make a difference but that can be said in any formation, the point is the system isnt some bizzaro esoteric system never to be seen anywhere

I don't think thats the case. I think that Pep wouldn't do any better with this set of players trying to play his style of football either. Same for Klopp/Slot. Amorims system needs runners. It needs players who will break through the opposition lines. We have almost none of those players. His system isn't crap, he just doesn't have any of the personnel required for it. This has been a problem for years at United. As soon as the opposition offer up any resistance we stop, check our runs and pass backwards and all momentum is gone. We aren't a possession based team who probe for gaps and have players with a high level of technique who can find gaps and play cute 1-2s.

A different manager would be getting far more from these players but ultimately the ceiling of this set of players is probably top 6-8.

The high ups at United certainly have a tricky decision to make now. £100m less to spend and a manager who needs more than a few players to come in. The safe option is to get rid of him and bring in a conventional 4 at the back manager and build on top of the current squad. The much more risky option is to back Amorim and hope that we aren't sacking him come Christmas and resetting again.

You're right.

What I really mean is his system is crap for this squad. He hasn't adapted to this squad and maybe it's not really his fault, but if you weren't going to adapt or at least try to mitigate the weaknesses then really shouldn't have been taking the job. He can't complain.

Without the money to buy players that suit his system it's too risky (in terms of relegation) to keep him. Need to work with what we have, get them comfortably mid table and spend a decade iteratively building something. Overnight success is and was a dream that only our arrogance born out of the Fergie years has fed.

Nobody said it doesn't work.

This is what I took from it as well. As in he’s just refusing to adapt even if the players can’t play and have proven they can’t over 40 games.

Fair enough if thats what he meant. I dont buy the refusing to adapt, he does occaisonally play a low block and counter attack and he knows it works better for the team but he doesnt like doing it. Thats is pretty much all this team is up for so if thats what people want then the fans should do as he suggested and push him out and get someone in that just plays a low block and counter.

I get that people may not like his stubborn way of sticking to his system but he went through the same thing at Sporting and everyone knows how that went so I guess he thinks he can do it again. He just needs the support like he did at Sporting, whether thats possible within the financial constraints the club has who knows

Probably not I'd imagine, my perception is that the Portuguese league is more forgiving than the Premier League and I fear that he would be shuffled out the door and the post-Ferguson manager merry go round at Utd would continue, rather than him being given extended length of time to do it again.

Very curious what funds united will have to get the players Amorim needs to excite his system/style of play. Sancho, Rashford and Antony all returning?

I think they could defo raise funds from all 3 plus Garnacho. There must be some legroom there to improve his squad.

Good luck in shifting those players considering the astronomical wages they're on.

This is Utd main problem with this squad I think more than anything, every other club has seen how poor they are and rumours of poor work rate by multiple managers no club in the right mind will touch them on the wages

Utd either have to pay them off and get rid or sell and end up paying part of wages for x amount of time.

Yep. I imagine Sancho will leave on a free at the end of his contract and I reckon United will have to accept something like £20m for Rashford and the other club pays his wages or £30-40m and United pay him to take a pay cut at the next club.

I think selling players will be much easier if we set aside some money to subsidise their wages a bit.

Easier to just get them out the door even if it costs us.
