Best Retro Handheld

Ordered an AYN Odin 2 mini pro (white) second hand for £290. Comes with a 3d printed handgrip that doubles as a screen protector.
Pricey but screw it, im sick of having to tweak settings for certain games and Snapdragon 8 gen 2 should mean I dont have to... until I go into PS3 and Xbox 360 emulation realms, which WILL happen
RP mini / RP5 was nice, but even then using Winlator for some games made it chug
Buying new it wasnt much more, but 4PX tends to take forever sometimes. Resale value seems quite high and love the PS Vita look

The Odin 2 mini Pro has a smaller screen than the RP5 though. Sure it’s more powerful on paper but what games you playing that is making the RP5 chug on Winlator ? I’m still waiting patiently for my RP5 but considering what I can load up on it when i get it.

It does yes, but the device is also a bit smaller and appears to be more pocketable.
Not just on paper, i've seen a few tests of it wiping the floor with an RP5. I think it was Fallout 3 and one of the Max payne games in Winlator I tried with the RP5. Still a lot better than the RG Cube I used to have.
Juiced (PS2) with another I tried on the RP5, totally unplayable even on native res. I had to change system OC settings to be able to get even close to 25fps. For the most part though, PS2 was fine on RP5 / RPmini.

When I get my RP5, I want to see if I can get those fringe games running good on it.

I.e I really want to see how Mario Kart 8 Switch runs on it as there loads of talk about the latest update making it possible.

Apologies re sale of my item - I thought it was going to be doing someone a favour in here who may not go into MM. Will list it in MM (a clipshield case for Ambernic RG406H)

Bought a second BatleXP G350 for £26 for my nephew/sister. Genuinely don't think there's better value for anything up to PS1. The build quality is incredible for the price, granted not perfect by any means, but it's a solid unit with amazing buttons, solid battery life and nice screen. This one also came with a branded SD card too so it's arguably ~£3-4 less than similar devices that don't.

He's never really played any games but was listing off all the things he'd done in Pokemon Silver so far when I saw him today (it wasn't much :p).

Well, I got it to work. Skate 3 on my new Odin 2 mini pro! This thing in performance terms is lightyears ahead of the T820 chip in the RG 406H which I returned.

Still waiting patiently for my Retroid Pocket 5 … they have just recently released the official grip for it which luckily I added it to my order. Any starter things or tips that I need to do when I get it ? I’m assuming it is an Android device with an emulator preloaded ?

Not sure if the RP devices have preloaded emulators like Ambernic. Either way, it's always better to get your own and configure as you need.

Any ones you recommend ? I have seen Emulation Station Desktop Edition being mentioned a lot and also Knulli which I had running on my Brick and Smart Pro. I guess it’s another try and see which works best for me type of thing.

Daijisho for the frontend imo. Rocknix might be worth a try if you dont want to go Android

I too have an RP5 winging it’s way to me.

I was going to follow this guide to setting it up, it looks quite comprehensive and has a written version too

Ah nice one and yeah I watched about half way through that video and I have bookmarked the website guide as well.

When and where did you ordered yours ?

I ordered from goretroid a couple of days ago. I just got an email today that it’s shipped, so I need to make a start on finding all the files mentioned in the setup video!
