Arc Raiders

In terms of Arc Raiders, just got a survey through asking me to give some feedback so assuming others might have got it too?
I filled the survey in yesterday because I saw them post the link into their discord

Talking of discord, they said this today :

It's been fun!

With the test officially ending here soon, we'll be closing the key channels. Thank you all for being good sports the past few days. You can probably expect the channels in the official server to close once the test ends but rest assured ours will remain open. Take this time to rest and get your gear sorted for the next run topside Raiders. Any news on a release we'll be sure to share with you.

So, interesting part there is the "Take this time to rest and get your gear sorted for the next run topside"...which seems to suggest that there will indeed be more test weekends yet, remember if you were in this one thats just finished you will have access to the upcoming ones too :)

I don't think PvE should ever give you the same tier as PvP does

And how do you justify that?

I think it's awful the way some top-end loot in, for example, Destiny2 and TheDivision2 are paywalled behind PVP.

I don't want to PVP - gave that all up when Battlefield3 was a hack-fest and no game has really tackled the cheaters, so I only play co-op/pve now.

Why the hell should top-tier loot only be for the PVPers?

Because PvP will always be more risky & challenging than PvE - so the rewards should match the risk.

Why should you get the same reward as me if I fought against actual players and you fought against AI? I really don't understand how you can want to play an extraction shooter and not have any interaction with other real players.

Since BF3? You've not played any PvP since 2011?! Christ.

no one would play PVP until they are geared up.

Also risk should = reward

If you could ghear up the same, but it took 30-50% longer or so then sure

There's a bigger market for it than for PVP I'd imagine. catering to pve players just ruins pvp games imo, the focus gets shifted and it becomes something else..

like that amazon mmo that was supposed to be PVP then flopped because they changed it

I played UO back in late nineties. They then caved to the pve carebears and made a mirrored world where you could choose to venture into the pvp side. It died shortly after that, shame was such a good game for its time.

I also played New World. It needs some adjustments as it has potential but these game devs never seem to be able to balance the mechanics.

BF3 was terrible for cheats/hacks.... aim hacks, wall hacks, headshot hacks... the straw that broke this camel's back was spawning into a game with some muppet sat in the enemy spawn and just firing a SAW type weapons and headshotting our team as they spawned.

I've lost all faith in game developers fixing it but playing PVE only removes the problem.

I have played Tarkov... I bought it in Dec 2018... and have encountered blatant cheats in there, too... the bionic speed movement and emptying a whole clip into you in 1 second.
Now I just play SPT Tarkov.

I still heartily disagree that PVPers should get more rewards... surely your reward is beating other RL players :)

PVErs are not second class citizens!

Why not just play on a server that had admins removing any who cheated then? I started playing BF3 on the Xbox 360 - then moved to PC and found it was fantastic being able to stick on a server that was really active and really 'on it' with anyone who was cheating. BF3 and BF4 were the two games that really helped me to 'get good' using mouse and keyboard, and that was largely spent getting my arse handed to me for hours and hours by people who were a lot better than me.

I do get that exclusively playing PvE games only removes that concern for you though and that you don't even need to consider it.

But I also think there's a growing trend to just assume anyone who is half decent at a game is cheating. I play a lot of the Finals, I've peaked at top 800 globally in ranked and would comfortably say I'm decent at the game - but the volume of messages accusing or asking if I'm cheating because of recoil control/awareness of where players are/spawn locations etc. is pretty surprising. There's a trend that if someone is good they're either cheating or they're a 'sweat'.

In terms of Arc, the whole point is that there is no PvP and PvE playerbase in Arc. The entire playerbase for the game is intended to be PvPvE and so the loot/rewards have to be balanced with that in mind.

Sometimes your objective is more PvE focused but the risk of PvP is part of that fun. Sometimes you have challenges/quests that require PvP but Arcs will stop your hunt. All players will sometimes go through that because hunting Arc is just as much a part of the game as hunting players. I don't know how much playtime you had in the tech test (my PS5 tells me 11 hours for me) but some of the raids we did were purely focused on getting in, killing a specific Arc and then getting out as fast as possible, trying to avoid other players as it would slow/stop our progression. Sometimes it worked, sometimes it didn't!

The tension in Arc comes from the mix of AI and unpredictable players. I do think I'd be keen for limited-time, PvE-focused events (i.e. everyone has to take down a massive, huge Arc collectively) and I imagine that's something Embark will definitely end up doing too.

The trouble with PVPVE games of the sweats that sit in their bedroom. Get max loot, and gear spoil regular people's game. They will actively hunt player's. And in ARC when someone dies, the game tells everyone with the flair's.

I understand that. When I was fresh to pc gaming played UT and CS I would have been up there which is now catered for by "esports". Alas I am old now and would not consider myself in that bracket, still play competitively but for fun.

One thing I noticed as I had experienced a few years back on dial-up (well copper wire BB) is how important your internet connection speed is on some of these games. You can have the fastest monitor, cpu and all the edges but if your internet is average (or worse) you can really tell when you enter the ranked lobbies.

If you do watch footage of warzone, fortnite, arma to name a few (I played xdefiant before they canned it) there are blatant cheaters - and I agree these games dont do enough to combat it. No point in installing these 'anti-cheat' programs if you see some of the stuff, but there are other ways to sieve the 'sweats' and like warzone tried recently has a casual mode which is an example of what they should be doing in some respect so guys like moog might not be put off.

Ping is king! It's a huge factor for twitch based shooters where you can die in a fraction of a second, probably why I enjoy the Finals so much where a slightly longer TTK means you don't have to have a sub 5ms ping to be competitive.

I have been on Finals this season. I played on release but the UE5 seemed to give me huge stutter and banding. It seems to be resolved now as its smooth as butter. Its not my go to game but I have a mate who loves it so play it to keep him happy really. I play more fortnite as my kids get me to play it with them.

If you watch them streamer dudes like sypherpk, zemie? they bang on about zero ping. I mean if your pretty good and have direct access ping then your going to have a big advantage.

That really depends on how the lag compensation is setup it varies from game to game, used to cheese apex legends playing on us servers with 110-150ms ping local players had terrible hit reg on you but your was fine against them.

This was my first thought reading the post complaining about BF3 cheaters. I played over 1000 hours of BF3 and rarely encountered cheating but accusations where often thrown around. Now for someone to quite over the vast amount of cheating makes he think its a case of "hes better than me, gotta be cheating...."

Also risk should = reward
I pay good money for the game, at the risk of it being a colossal waste of time. My reward should be access to (or the opportunity to earn) at least the majority of the in-game stuff.

But then, I lost interest in this game when it went all PvP. The draw for me was the idea of players all having to work together.
