Tainted Grail: the Fall of Avalon

Just be aware that the game while playing looks like an old XBOX title. Don't believe a lot of the hyped up streamer/review videos who were given free copies!

With DLSS it looks bloody terrible, and there's NO sharpen options either :(

Finished what I guess is the tutorial area and killed a couple of bosses.

Souls + Oblivion so far. The Souls side is that it feels much darker. The characters talk with that sombre tone from Souls.
Great lore and setting.
Playing on the hardest difficulty make it feel more Souls like. All the mobs can be deadly. As a mage though currently I can just sprint past a melee mob as they start their swing animation and not get hit at all. Turn, cast, repeat.
Great soundtrack.
4K native is fine. The art style makes up for some of the lack of texture detail. DLSS has some blur going on. Very immersive though and some great scenes even at this early stage.
Lots of reagents. Introduced to alchemy which seems important and cooking.
About to hit the open world. Good so far.

Think im defo going to pick this up at some point, looked ok to me in the videos ive so far seen?

I dont mind the aesthetics, as you can see from the screenshots earlier in the thread. The textures can be iffy in places but the lighting and shadow is pretty good, you can take some decent looking screenshots and remember this is a AA title, not a AAA, for me it looks on a par with the Elder Scrolls games and thats good enough for me, especially as the game is so damned good to play (which is ultimately all that matters of course)

I'll add to this, choices actually do matter, your game can play out entirely differently depending upon the choices you make, also dont skip side quests, some of them are superb.

In addition to that, brilliant voice acting and again, dont skip the dialog, some of it is hilarious.

Think this is next on my list once I’ve completed Oblivion, Doom and Clair whatever it’s called on GP.

Looks good from what I’ve seen but I’m trying to avoid watching too much of it.

This has continued to get better, especially the characters and writing. Did a great side quest involving a necromancer that didn't quite go as expected. Great fun so far.
Some of the sidequests are superb, better than many games main quests. Crazy thing is that I am 30 hours in, unlocked access to the 2nd proper zone and I'm STILL finding new stuff back in the first zone (horns of the south), just so much content and so much thats very easy to miss if you dont talk to everyone and search everywhere

I almost wrote off the game because of the demo. The graphics looked a bit thin and very console like. However I am playing it and quite like the music and character scripting. The combat is a bit rough but fights are not easy. You can get mobbed quickly and I just snook up on a boss, hit him and he immediately turned around and one shot me :)

I guess the world scaling suits large boss fights later in the game?

It's one of those games where you set off to a quest location 10 minutes away and get there 3 hours later.

About half way through the first area combat became pretty trivial as a mage anyway on the highest difficulty. You don't even really need pets. Bosses also are very easy. Not a big complaint as I wasn't looking for Souls bosses.

A slight disappointment was that in the second chapter/area the mobs are mostly repeated from the first but just with more hit points.

Overall still a great game though. Some great quests and lots of lore and exploration.

Yeah I'm thinking of respeccing to not using Summons because combat has just become so easy. It's a shame because the combat is pretty fun otherwise.

Played the demo and liked what I saw. Still quite expensive though. I think I need to trawl the cd-keys websites for a deal.

Just played through the tutorial and enjoyed it. Graphics were a little rough so put tinkered a while with Reshaded on to sharpen it up and give it some HDR/OLED pop. Onwards!

Hotfix #2
This Hotfix contains:

UI:
Fixed the quest section displaying when there was no active quest in the quest log.,
Fixed an issue where quest or item notifications were sometimes missing.,
Fixed item list and gamepad navigation after consuming food or potions in the Bag.,

Fixed saving fishing entries in the journal.,

Gameplay:
Fixed Dal Riata Berserkers and Galahads freezing in place after running away from them during combat.,
Fixed Hero Summons attacking friendly Red Priests.,
Devil's Snare and Mandrake plants are now respawning correctly.,
Filling Beor's heart with player's energy now costs 30 Max HP instead of 40.,
Changed Arcanist's Sword Damage Gain per upgrade level: 21 → 1.,
If you have only one hand at your disposal, you will get the one-handed variant of Giant’s Grudge.,
Fixed Bromhar No Face's attacks being unblockable and unparryable.,
Fixed having item encumbrance debuffs even when within the limit after save/load.,
Wyrdstalker will now stalk you more—he was a bit too eager for a fight. He is now much slower outside of combat.,
Fixed Unnatural Focus Talent not slowing down time correctly.

Technical:
When saving fails for any reason, the failed save will now be removed. Previously, you could load it and play on a corrupted save.,
Buyback in shops will now store a maximum of 50 items, which will prevent them from downgrading performance.,
Optimized vegetation in Cuanacht.,
Some people were killing enemies a bit too enthusiastically. If you find yourself falling through the world, load a save — it should now fix it.,
Fixed visual artifacts of wyrd barriers.,
Removed headbob that persisted after changing loadout when sprinting with two-handed weapons.,
Caradoc and other NPCs should no longer blur when the player camera was not moved for some time in dark conditions. As wyrd as that was, it was not intended.,
Blood Transfusion and Life Transfusion spells optimization and fixes.,
[Steam] There will now be a warning popup when the game fails to detect Steam. We are still working on a migration feature for people who played without Steam.,

You will now be able to exit Deirdre's basement correctly.,
Fixed quest "Forked Path" if the player collected Matron’s Insignia before getting the quest.,
"The Trial" quest will no longer break if you kill the target before starting the quest. We will add a retroactive fix in the next hotfix.,
Fixed quest "Forked Path" where you couldn't continue the quest after finding the novice's body.,
Added missing rewards to a few quests.,
Fixed Neante questlines being impossible to continue. This should fix retroactively so she should have the correct dialogues now.
