EV general discussion

Nissan has been trying to position themselves as a premium brand lately - unfortunately even when they put nice soft touch materials and better quality controls, etc. on the more prominent parts behind that is still the same old cheap scratchy hard plastics which rattle and vibrate and undoes the impression, never mind at the prices they want to charge people's first, second or third choice isn't Nissan - and that isn't a slight of Nissan just how it is. I actually quite like the full spec (usually Tekna) trim level on Nissans as it combines smart looks with an understated style and mostly sensible layout but then as above is undone by not having the conviction (or taking on the expense themselves) to do it below skin deep.

Case in point https://www.carmagazine.co.uk/car-reviews/nissan/nissan-micra-2017-review/ if you scroll down to the close up of the sat nav/infotainment - the orange coloured material is nice, the surround on the climate controls is NOT and creaks and feels naff.
Lately and a review 2017 doesn’t exactly prove your point lol

Car when reviewed £11,995 - what are you expecting exactly for that price?

It isn't about this specific car - just using the image there as an illustration, case in point was probably bad wording on my part. Even on the top spec Ariya, etc. you get similar where on the most prominent face is nice materials then the underlying plastics are cheap and rattly and undoes any premium impression.

Anyone here got a Model 3?

And... have they tried rear facing seats behind the passenger?

I have an Axkid Minikid 2. It must fit behind the passenger, or I won't buy the car.

Any examples here?

I'm hoping to buy a 2020 model 3 Performance with FSD enabled. I've found one, but without this answer I'm unable to progr3ss the purchase.

Yes, I'll test fit this. But I'm away with work for the week so can't.

I did a test drive in the M3 with a rear facing child seat and it was fine but not your model, it was a Maxi Cosi something

Anyway you can always move the front seat forward to make it fit, it's only a question of front passenger legroom but it was pretty comfortable when we tried it

The leg room in my 440i is pants with the seat behind it. Im hoping the model 3 is better or at least similar. That way it's viable.

I don’t have any kids but I’ve owned a Model 3. Rear legroom is fine for full grown adults so I’d expect a child seat would also be fine.

The only issue(s) are the front seats are low to the floor so you can’t tuck your feet under them as a rear passenger and the height between the floor and the top of the bench seat is also smaller than an ICE car due to the battery being under the floor - similar to most non-SUV EVs.

Neither would impact a child seat though and it’s still fine for an adult on a long journey.

This highlights just how insane car prices have gotten.

£12k in 2017, and they expect the new one to start at £23k..https://www.whatcar.com/news/nissan-micra-returns-as-a-funky-new-electric-hatchback/n27542, and it will be there or thereabouts, no doubts.

So a near 100% increase in price...yet wages have gone up about 25% since then.

Not sure how any of this is sustainable long term....

Yeah RRP for cars is nuts

I swear it's just so high to push everyone towards finance...

Yep. It's like house prices.

House prices are only as high as they are, because there is the availability to borrow so much. If banks weren't able to lend so much, prices would naturally come down as no one could afford them...

Ofcourse it's massively in the interest of banks to lend more and more money, regardless of whether it pushes the prices of everything up to obscene levels.

It will all collapse massively at some point.

We have the old and newer highland ones in work, and 440i/440d's, the rear legroom in the Model 3 is notably more than the 440i!

And here:

Suggests the Minikid 2 fits front and rear..

Just FYI, 2020 means the Model 3 will be a pre-facelift version, there were some changes made in 2021
- Heat Pump (so more efficient)
- Powered Boot open/close
- Front windows double glazed
- new centre console with 2 x Wireless chargers
- Heated Steering wheel
- De-chromed exterior.

Is the face-lift that much better?

It’s fundamentally the same in terms of interior space.

The rear bench was tweaked slightly to increase the height between the floor and the top of the bench but it’s minimal. I wouldn’t expect that to have a material impact on child seat fitment.

Edit: by facelift do you mean the 2024 version or the minor changes in 2020/21 where the black trims, new centre console and heat pump were added?

If the latter, I don’t think there was any material change to the rear seats. The above change I mentioned was on the 2024 refresh.

Better, but not *that* much..

Other minor changes:
- Late 2021/early 2022 they upgraded the infotainment to a Ryzen CPU, this was notably smoother (doesn't affect FSD or other systems).

My brother has a carbon bodykit on his M3-P, which looks OK in the flesh.. as long as you don't tint lights and go OTT, a bit of a styling pack can elevate the fairly mundane standard styling.

A novel 2021 car would likely have them Ryzen wouldn't it?
