So I built my current system back in 2015, it wasn't exactly top of the line back then but it was more than enough for what i needed.

After ten years the boss has finally given me permission to upgrade the PC which is mainly used by myself and the kids for gaming.

My current Specs are in my sig but I'm now looking to update and future proof. Out of my current built the only parts i intend to reuse is the case, HDD and SSD.

As ive been out of the loop for a while can this wonderful forum tell me if i am likely to run into any issues with my propsed build or if there are are any better options?

My basket at OcUK:

Total: £1,869.89 (includes delivery: £0.00)

I may in the future invest in an M.2 drive to replace the SSD which is currently used for the OS.

what are the specs?
not all of us (ie me) have sigs enabled

even without seeing the current specs, i can tell you now that your proposed build is well overpriced and poor value.
what is the budget?
Ah, no worries,

Current spec is...
MoBo: ASUS Z170 Pro-Gaming
Graphics Card: MSI Geforce GTX 980 4GDv OCV1
RAM: Kingston Fury Black 16GB DDR4 2400MHz
CPU: Intel I5 5600
CPU Cooler: Corsair H100i v2 AIO
Storage: Kingston 120GB SSDNOW V300
Storage: Seagate 2TB HDD
PSU: Superflower Leadex Gold 550w
Case: Phanteks Enthoo Pro in white

I was hoping to get it around the £1600 - £1800 mark

Storage: Seagate 2TB HDD
how old is this?
if this is about 10 years old, and bought with the rest of the current pc, i would be inclined to swap this out as well. you're reaching the "u" point of the failure curve where the older the drive is, the more likely it is to fail per given year

Storage: Kingston 120GB SSDNOW V300
yeah don't bother reusing this either
get a new nvme ssd

are you planning to sell the old system in bits or as a whole?

potential changes depending on your prefences/budget:
white cpu cooler for £5 more: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/ther...rgb-white-cpu-cooler-120mm-coo-tlr-02666.html
white 360mm aio cooler for £21 more: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/ther...b-v3-all-in-one-cpu-cooler-coo-tlr-03257.html
5080 instead of the 5070ti: https://www.overclockers.co.uk/zota...-pci-express-graphics-card-gra-ztc-04544.html = will be overbudget though, unless you remove the hdd replacement i specced

why i have not specced the 9070XT:
nvidia has better upscaling (DLSS3), ray-tracing (and CUDA if you use)
in pure rasterisation, the 5070ti is 5% ahead of the 9070XT
at current prices, the 5070ti is 10% more expensive (so 5% + better software, game support with DLSS/RTX)
personally, i can't really recommend the 9070XT at the current predatory prices. £600 maybe, but not £660 or more in some cases

I appreciate you taking the time buddy, It's definitely giving me food for thought. As for your other reply,

Yeah everything in that build is 10 years old now, I will be updating the HDD but that will be a bit further down the line. The only thing that stopped me going the NVME route before was my own inexperience having never having reinstalled an OS on a new drive.

Would anyone be interested in components from a 10 year old PC?

So you're only going to be using 1x M.2 drive?

Do you care about USB4?

Would you prefer/be interested in a white build, seeing as your case is white?

I was planning on using one for the OS. I could also use a second for main storage too in the future. USB4 is something i'd even thought about tbh.
I'd happily built something using white components.

Here you go, doesn't really make sense to buy this for a purely gaming build and white is extra expense, but whatever, options.

USB4 is really the main reason to buy X870/X870E over B850, but it does usually impact the M.2 slots, so best avoided unless you need it.

add another 25% if you can paint go-go-faster racing stripes :P

Don't forget the spoiler.

I 2nd, or 3rd, or 6th the "ditch the existing drives"comments.
If gaming go with the 9800X3D as already specced by tammzy, unless you need a load of storage just stick to additional or larger NVME drives.

all in all a solid build, the CPU cooler and GPU have much cheaper options out there, but if you want the RGB/look of them at go for it.

if the system is just for gaming, you could drop down to a 9700x/ or depening on the resalution your gaming at go for a 9800x3d for max gaming.
