What did you do to your bike today?

I'm putting protection film on the heel guard tomorrow, so no scratching.
And yes, there's no room. Every sports bike I've had has had them up top.
I did fit a Hyperpro to my SDR1290 low down, but it was close to hitting the rad, but made a massive difference.

Well, that went well! Quick ride out to check everything still worked. And it did. But on my return - and wearing no earplugs for a change - noticed an awful squeaking from the shock area when compressing and releasing suspension. Shock itself is clean as a relatively clean whistle so I'm hoping bearings. The idiot fancy swing arm on this seems like it was designed to fill itself with crap at the shock mount and ruin bearings, so hopefully it's that.

Belatedly realised I don't need KTM to fix this, so I can skip their summer long wait and go local with any luck.
Well, it seems that KTM's troubles are now becoming my troubles :/. I need two parts (x4 of one and x2 of the other) to replace the top and bottom shock mount stuff. In the UK? Nope! In the EU? Maybe. Found Part 1 and ordered, but first place I found with Part 2 (after much searching) doesn't ship outside the EU. Finally found another place, but only for the previous 'revision' of this part. Although my bike probably has that previous revision on it today, so should be ok.

I'm just waiting for Tuesday to find out if "In Stock" actually means in stock. Triple D (A UK KTM shop) already found a mid June back order date if I tried the normal approach.

Now I need to try and stay away from the new R1300RS page. Although 20 grand and less power, a smaller tank, and a not idiot head engine is helping temper my man maths.

Lobbed some PPF on the heel guard and also painted the rear hugger, and that as they say is that.
Everything is done to it that I want to do..

Turns out removing a shock is a pain in the buttocks.

I was hoping to avoid needing to remove the cat. I removed the cat.
I was hoping to avoid removing the tank. I removed the tank.
I was hoping to avoid having to pivot the rear subframe up. I pivoted the subframe up.

Now I just need to persuade some rather stuck bushes to come out the bottom shock eye. Top one was easy and clean. The swing arm shock mount point on the 1290 GT is a terrible design. The SAS and SAR and I think R are all done better. On the GT it's in a recess with a 1/4 inch drain hole at the bottom that is obscured from below by the cat, and the top by the shock. So it gets blocked up and helps kill the bearing and I think seize the bushes.

On the parts front I have OEM enough for one end, and non-OEM enough for both. Hilariously and unhelpfully the bushes are slightly different shapes on the non-OEM.

I fitted a quick action throttle tube. One thing I've noticed is that to fully open the throttle, you either need to adjust your grip or kind of open your hand a bit and roll your fingers back. A popular mod is to fit a ZX10R throttle tube, and add some slack to the throttle cables. Did that this afternoon and it is a lot better. Just in now from re-fitting the heated grip. Annoyingly I did have to break the old throttle tube out of the grip, but they're not a lot of money, and after having a test ride earlier, I am very unlikely to go back to the standard tube! Happy for £27 plus a half an hour taking the tank off and adjusting it all.

Cables connected again, and it’s much quieter at low revs.
I’ll miss the kids giving the gesture to rev the nuts off it for their enjoyment (or at least that’s the hand gesture I think they were giving).

I had the previous model in hockenheim silver before swapping to a GS1250 (not my thing it turns out), so when the 2025 twin headlight model came out had to jump back (although I very nearly bought the new streetfighter as found a dealer with a cancelation).

Fantastic bike and an absolute missile, looks so much better with the new headlight and love the blue / yellow colour scheme I went with.

Just over 400 miles on it so far and is booked in for early june for the 600 mile service which will unlock it.

Planning to modify my seat for a third time - after not finding the blue eBay gel very comfortable, I ordered some 'medical grade' gel, which was a bit odd when it arrived as it was a sealed 'bag' of black gel; but it felt a lot better and I couldn't poke my finger through it (unlike the blue stuff).

Sadly - after several rides, the seat is still a pain the in *** literally!

Ordered some Luimoto gold gel as the next test, so hopefully that will be the sweet spot...
