Attempting to water cool again after 20 year gap - needing some advice please

Thanks Mcnumpty2323, am I correct in thinking that if the cpu is getting hot then the cpu and motherboard are gonna be fine?

I know that if no working memory is installed then there will be no video signal (and with the cpu getting hot) then the memory is the most likely cuprit/problem?

Aquasuite is not difficult to use unless you want it to be as its very customable if thats such a word
I think Customisable is the word you're looking for
But he's got bigger issues at the moment
Getting it to boot up and display

Pretty sure once he sorts that out
Some of you guys can talk him through using aquasuite
And what he can and can't connect to the quadro
Either directly
Or if some things might need an adaptor possibly

If he can't get on with it (too complex etc)
It should sell on mm anyway

Thanks, I shall definitely require a bit of guidance with the old' Aqua suite software.

I have bitten the bullet and bought just a 16gb Vengeance kit from Overclockers so it should at least determine which part(s) are faulty.

I'd checked before but seeing your post I just double-checked. All appear to be fine.

Have to try and stay positive and just fault find methodically.

Now spent my savings, so will have to work through the rest of the build (if can) the best I can.

Was worth double checking anyway
You're too far away or would have offered to test
Cpu and ram for you
Motherboard too I guess if it supports a 5950x

Long shot
But does the motherboard support the cpu ?
Lost track what motherboard
Does it have the ability to update bios from flash drive
In case needs bios update for cpu support?

Thanks, not sure how far Planet Thanet is from Torquay.

The motherboard is a Gigabyte B550M Ds3H (rev.4) and has accross the bottom of the box in a banner - "AMD 5000 CPU ready" so this and it being the last revision (4) it should be able to handle a 5600x.
Looking at the CPU support list on the Gigabyte website it shows 5600x supported with FB Bios version which was November 15th 2022.

Around 270 miles
Basically drive out of Torquay and just keep going
With the sea visible on your right hand side
You eventually arrive here

Amd 5000 ready does sound promising at least

Having a speaker to connect to the motherboard for error beeps is invaluable IMO.

Does your motherboard have LEDs for status? Some have an LED for memory, CPU, GPU and OK.

Morning all, hope all well.

I received the new memory from Overclockers yesterday late afternoon (2x8gb corsair Vengeance ddr4 3200) but thought i'd try it on a full fresh day...

It's now Saturday morning and my initial "YaY" and relief of getting a signal out to the monitor was unfortunately short-lived as this image is all I can get.

I've unplugged psu and removed the bios battery, crossed the two 'clear cmos' pins on the motherboard but nothing changes. tried with a single stick of memory, but the same screen image.

Also, with the 1080ti with waterblock attached I get the same image (once again, I was kinda glad it showed something).

Not sure where to go from here....

Edit: Thought that I might as well try a bios update and after some stressful minutes (thanks to Mikes unboxing for gigabyte m/board updating tutorial) I have now got into a full proper bios screen (YaY)

I could have just deleted the first part of this post but thought I should keep as it is part of the build progress (kind of).

So close but still so far
How long did you remove bios battery for?
Had a gigabyte board that gave me all sorts of problems
In the end had to remove bios battery
And unplug/turn off psu for at least 30 minutes
No idea why but removing bios battery for less time
Just didn't work

Wish I could think of a forum member
Who is close to you
Who could double check cpu and ram for you at least

Any local independent pc shops?
Sometimes those will charge very little
To test for you if they have spare compatible hardware
In the shop
Obviously not somewhere like pc world/currys
They would want silly money

I'm wondering if the board was returned to Overclockers due to a borked bios update. I have never seen that simple American Megatrends banner shown before without any text/command.

The gigabyte website and manual are of course useless when it comes to bios update instructions. It was only due to Mikes Unboxing that I discovered I had to rename the bios file to GIGABYTE.bin.

I've now managed to install Windows (Rufus) and am just going to do a few drivers before I dismantle it all.

I'm quite proud of myself for the progress today. I now also know that the 1060 gpu, 1080ti gpu, 5600x cpu, b550m motherboard, 16gb memory and BeQuiet psu are all working!

Next, putting the motherboard in the case, fans, rads etc and I suppose I am right in thinking to begin planning the loop.

Cheers Mcnumpty2323 for continual help and support.

The previous picture of bios
You haven't enabled xmp for the ram
Might be worth just checking it runs OK with xmp enabled

Probably won't be an issue
Not like it's very high speed ram

And you're very welcome mate

May be easier to install cpu waterblock
Whilst outside the case

Would install motherboard, ram,gpu,cpu block
That gives the first look at how your loop may be routed
Fans and radiators just install using a couple of screws at first
No point using all the screws until certain of position and orientation
Need to also decide how and where pump/res gets mounted
And where drain valve will go

I enabled XMP and seemed to work okay.

One thing that I should have done (realised afterwards) is to test that the pcie riser cable worked with the motherboard. I did not see a pciex16 gen setting in the bios but will need to do this before I put the motherboard in the case.
I shall put some photos up of general case layout ideas and get some opinions before I commit.
