BMW and M Power Owners

I know the BMW oil change intervals are discussed a lot, but I think they know what they're doing - I've yet to see any solid evidence it's particularly detrimental. It adjusts dynamically anyway to allow for different sorts of usage.

Historical issues with timing chain guides are down to a poor design rather than the oil.

I personally tend to stick with what BMW recommend - particularly with a car under warranty.

I've always done at least the oil every 12 months, regardless of what the iDrive says. I've never heard of anything detrimental happening with too many oil changes, but I've heard plenty about not changing the oil often enough.

Most oils lose their parameters at 10k km, you can see a significant difference. I can't find any english forums with tests, but there's loads of foreign (european) forums that clearly show the before and after parameters of oils. I stick to 7k miles on my daily drivers, anything that gets ragged gets oil changes between 500-2k miles or 12 months.

Edit:

BMW's long life statement is the biggest joke, BMW says that the oil in the ZF 8HP Gearbox doesn't need changing, whilst ZF recommends changes every 60k miles or 8 years... The actual manufacturer of the gearbox.

Fair enough. Yes sound agree. My LCI M2 N55 is epic. Wouldn't say no to an aftermarket exhaust if a second-hand one popped up locally for a good price, but stock sounds fab for sure :)
Get a 1M :p

There's an OG M2 LCI in my underground garage - was sat in my Comp the other day when the OG started up. Wow it sounds good - I remember loving the noise it made, but I'd forgotten by how much.

What's the main difference in why the OG M2 and the comp sound different, is it to do with particulate filters or...?

My F90 M5 was very subdued and even my G80 M3 comp isn't a whole lot better. I mean it can make a noise, but neither holds a candle to how my E36 M3 used to sound :(

I'm pretty sure adding an aftermarket exhaust won't make a huge difference either, it's just where we are these days.

Yes, all OG's have no particulate filter, which makes a big difference.
The 'S' engines of recent times don't sound as good typically regardless of exhaust, something due to the firing order(?) of the engine. The N55 is just a great sounding engine

Went to see this today.. https://usedcars.bmw.co.uk/vehicle/202505212641951

WTF, how do you ruin a wheel in 20k, unless it had a mileage blocker? Our 3 series with 100k wheel looks better...

Easier to find a panel that wasn't repainted...

The sales guy attitude was already enough for me to walk, but my dad said to wait. Had to wait an hour for him to find and fetch the car even though I booked a viewing yesterday morning.. No matter how much you're spending, London and surrounding areas is full of sheds... Waste of time.

Edit:

Thinking about the mileage to wear ratio, the pads and discs were pretty worn too...

That's a terrible spec, especially at that price. Mine was £34k and has all the packs with only slightly higher mileage. I was searching for Tech, Comfort and visibility pack at minimum.

Pretty sure the OG is a single turbo, Comp is a twin turbo with two lots of 3 cylinders on each turbo with their own fair portion of unequal length exhaust before they merge so sound fairly like garbage. There’s a few product that try to equal out the length and make it actually sound like a straight six again but not sure they work hugely well.

Hi all,

Your fav resident again, i need to santity check one more time

I am booking in my BMW 420d to Sytner BMW - going in for Oil / Oil filter / air filter service and included inspection check over -

Given that i recently had a repair done on the rear right wheel (puncture repair from the outside) all 4 wheels have good tread

If BMW do the inspection, how can i be certain they will not find and red flag the repair in the rear right wheel and then state it has failed the inspection they are going to void my warrenty? all info on online suggests it could very well invalidate my warranty.

Given the inspection is due this month, could they use this as an excude to void any warrenty? or am i safe? I would ask them but i dont want to point them to the repair
