5080 Super rumour/leak

I have a 3090...... i planned to skip the 4000 series and jump on a 5080 at launch.

but typically my luck this gen nvidia decided to completely gimp the 080 series and its not even close to the 5090.

this 5080 super is still massively gimped so i guess i will be hanging on and hoping the 6000 series offers something compelling.
I admit the 5090 is an amazing gpu - and if the 5080 was a 5090 with a bit less ram and 15% less cores i would have been on it like a fly on pooh! but nvidia have cut too much from what is still meant to be an *almost* top of the stack gaming gpu.

Your money, your choice, but I don't buy this argument. The logical conclusion is that you'd actually be happier if the 5090 was *less* powerful (even at the same price), so long as the 5080 wasn't too far behind. It's like you're punishing Nvidia for making their top-end card *too* powerful! Don't get me wrong, there's plenty of reasons to dislike Nvidia, and/or not buy their products, but this one doesn't hold water for me. Besides, what are you going to do going forward if this is the new normal? (Go AMD is a valid answer, to be fair!)

For a Laugh i asked Ai to tell me when the 5080 Super will get relased. I was hoping that this was run on a Nvidia Data center and the machine, rebelling against its overlords leaked somthing : RTX 5080 Super is most likely to be released either in late Q4 2025 or in early 2026 (around CES 2026) at £1079 and £1279 GBP

They may have released firmware that fixes the 5000 card by then too, but surely Jan 2026 is too close to 6000 series by that point, and potentially UDNA chips too.

that is a strange take and if it sounded like that i didnt mean it!.
the RTX5080 is further away from the 5090 than the past generations..... i am suggesting the 5080 should be better not the 5090 worse (cheaper would also work but that was not what i was getting at)

as for what do i do going forward........ AMD or just give up on high end PC gaming.

Aye, but my point is that if the 5090 was worse, the entire debate wouldn't even exist...
sure it would, the only difference would be I would be saying the entire generation was a disappointment and over priced/under performing.

where as now i say the whole generation is an over priced disappointment....... except for the 5090 which is a pretty sweet card i just cant justify it as its too expensive for me ;)

nvidia have always had the odd "bad" (imo of course) generations. the most recent one being the 2000 series where the 2080 was worse in some areas than my 1080ti - at launch it was worse in almost every way aside from ray tracing (which it was still not good enough at to be usable)... i believe future driver updates may have improved things a little..

the 3080 was (very) good (albeit a bit tight on ram), the 4080 was good (although i skipped) but imo the 5080 is a disappointment esp for the cost.

at least its not as bad as the old 9000 generation (the 9800gtx which was coming on the back of the amazing 8800 gtx)

True, you make good points. I really wish Nvidia wasn't short changing us all.
With AI being as in demand as it is i just dont think gamers are a priority for NV. i would be tempted to get a PS6 next gen instead but all my mates game on pc and also i do not like paying subs - esp for basic functions like online access.

plus there are all the PCVR titles which i still want to play

with £80+ cost per game, you wont be saving much. My two friends who are primarily console gamers, are selling their xboxs end of this year and moving to PC in order to save money. When you consider game pass on pc, ps games on pc, free games on epic, gog and steam, and then the huge discounts one gets over time on pc games, it just makes sense, at least for them.
