Pimax Crystal Super

Nice write up @Toekiller . Interesting you say the Lights visuals aren't far behind, definitely diminishing returns as the PPD gets higher. Happy for u that u got a unit with no apparent faults.
Yeah it's not massive but of course I can't compare side by side. The brain get's used to things quite quickly :p

Yeh I agree, with my old Pimax 8KX with 160 FOV the wide fov was great but within an hour of using a Quest 2 with 100 FOV I'd soon got used to it and didn't miss anything at all. Your review is balanced, it has got me thinking would I actually get anything from 50 PPD? Would I be ok with a PCL which is about £400 cheaper even when counting in the $399 discount I get for being a old Pimax headset owner.

I suppose it depends on what PC you have to run it as well. I don't really see the point of getting the Super over the Light if you can't get the best out of it. Future proofing a bit perhaps? You do get better lenses, fov and eye tracking. It's all diminishing returns now.

I have a 5090, which I might return tbh, bought from here, the fans are permanently on about 1100 RPM when my PC is at idle which creates a fairly loud humming noise which I could live with but I'm afraid it'd put people off when I inevitably sell the card on in the future, but I digress. Edit - its not the GPU fans.

Yeh the Super needs a 5090 agreed, even a 4090 probably won't be enough. Deffo future proofing regards PPD and yes I've heard the lenses, fov and eye tracking are decent. That form factor is going to really be outdated well it's already outdated, I guess it depends how high a priority it is to someone. I would like a really small and light headset but if given the choice I'd choose resolution and fov. Plus the inside out tracking, even if only good enough for seated gaming, negates the need for basestations which is another thing I like.

I've got 1 arriving in July (according to Pimax), I'm not convinced about that. Great that they have a 14 day return window (play for dream only allow returns for faults, not sure what BSB's policy is, I know meganeX only allow returns for faults).

Not sure that anyone cares or is interested lol but I cancelled my Super order, even though I had the $399 discount it was still £1200'ish on something I don't really want now that I have a Play For Dream MR en route. I value wireless ability over DP (I can't see any difference) and I want mixed reality ability.

Some turnaround over the weekend :p

based on past experience, I wouldn't trust that either anyway

Play For Dream MR looks really interesting though, very interested to hear your thoughts on it
it does appear to suffer from a common problem that these headsets coming out of china suffer from in that the ergonomics seem to suit wider faces, narrow european type faces are reporting problems with fitment and eyestrain - theres a 3d printed interface already that might help

Yes that's a commonly reported issue with it at the moment about the facial interface not suiting western faces, PFD are coming out with a new one especially for western faces in about a month afaik, for now I've paid £15 to someone who does 3D printing for an interface created by the VR YT'er Tyriel Wood (that might be the 1 you're referring to) which should be here within a few days, I need to find padding and magnets for it.

I've also got today in the post a top strap from Studioform that might be able to allow it to be used without the interface, so it kind of becomes a halo type headset, I like having no interface on Q3 as I like MR especially. DHL says it'll be here on 20th so I will post some thoughts on it etc, I'm kind of making myself think it won't be really good as not to be disappointed but of course I do hope it is.

Ironically I have a currently unused studioform strap at home, plus a couple of others I used for the Quest 1 and for the Quest Pro before I got the globular cluster kit for the Pro.

I almost always use the Quest Pro with no user interface, it's way more comfy, and for MR it's incredible as your real arms blend into the MR view, making it seem like the FOV is much wider.
