Still getting a lot of stuttering in game?

Hey guys,

I have just setup my new 5090 today and fired up some cs2 to see how it went, and its bad, stutter central. I thought previously it was the GPU and or storage, but since both have been changed, the problem persists..

im thinking it could be the new CPU, its a 7800X3D.. but not 100% sure..

Anything I can try? Also a brand new install of W11 too.
 
Stuttering is the unholiest word in PC gaming, you need an exorcism.

On a serious note, please describe:
- Everything you have done previously to diagnose and solve the problem, both software and hardware.
- Scenarios (games?) where it is bad/worst.
- Scenarios (games?) where it is not bad/doesn't exist.
- The last time you gamed without stutter.
- Describe exactly what stutter means to you and how/when you experience it.

- i have updated the BIOS, changed the GPU and NVMe drives, fresh install of W11 and up to date drivers...for windows and NVIDIA.
- its bad in all now, CS2, Sniper elite, six days in feulluja, PUBG etc..
- i last gamed before I upgraded the CPU + GPU and was fine..
- Its dropping frames, soon as the stutter hits, my FPS counter plumets and resumes a second or so later..

(Throttling) Have you monitored the clocks/temps/power usage in something that shows it continually over time, like 3D Mark (it has a graph that shows clocks during the benchmark), hwinfo's sensor tab (min/avg/max), gpu-z?

Checked that a CPU intensive (e.g. Cinebench) and GPU intensive benchmark produces the correct(ish) scores?

(Monitor/variable refresh issues) Have you tried messing with gsync, v-sync, frame caps, different refresh rates?

How many monitors do you have?

(CPU hiccups) What mouse/keyboard are you using? If wireless, have you tried wired?

Do you have RGB or motherboard software running?

What software do you run when gaming?

(AMD/nvidia drivers) How many drivers have you tried?

When did you do the fresh install? When switching from a multi-CCD to single-CCD CPU (especially X3D) it is a good idea to redo chipset drivers and what not.

These are not all related to your card, but many are applicable, so worth looking at anyway:

When/how often does this occur?

Unlikely, unless there's an issue with the cooler mount.
 
I had a watch of that video @Tetras and I think I found the culprit. It was on "Auto Gen" on the PCIEX 16_1 and I changed it to Gen 3 and seems to have helped?

Should I try gen 4? is there much performance loss between the different settings??
 
whats weird is AfterBurner is showing me lower idle temps on the GPU since changing to Gen3?? WTF??

sitting around 40-41 ish, so dropped 3-4 degrees??
 
can anyone explain the temps though??

EDIT : the heating is now off and getting cold in here, so it was coincidence in the end.

will try Gen4 and see, if no good I willl revert back.

Will update once fully tested!!

Have you tried creating a test Windows account and disabling all background monitoring and RGB software? That should help you rule out any issues on that front.

I'd also strongly suggest running DDU and doing a fresher driver install.
