Airport Gate number / Boarding time

dood its literally a tiny airport... anyone whos used it knows.

walking from Security to the gate departure is like 5-10minutes, in bigger airports that walk can be more like 20-30+

its a small airport Obviously I didnt mean literally ther smallest airport in the world.

what happened to society that people take everything literally and as gospel..... holy crap...

its basically an overly large corridor or a straight section of a mall, its super small, it's super simple, everythings pretty close to each other...

trying to hint that its a stress free place to fly from...

hard lefty doesnt like my politics so doesnt like me at all awww diddums.... grow up and stop being tribal...

youy know in the 909s when youi were friends with loads of people regardless of politics or views? you just accepted people saw the world differently...

what a utopia that was.

HAVE YOU ACTUALLY DEPARTED FROM NEWCASTLE AIRPORT? IM TALKING FROM ACTUAL EXPERIENCE NOT A WIKI PAGE.

YOU DO REALISE i LIVE IN NEWCASTLE RIGHT? I LITERALLY SAID I LIVE 20MINUTES FROM IT IN THIS THREAD IM LITERALLY TALKING FROM EXPERIENCE OF USING IT.

its laughable how opinions make enemies tribal thought is destroying society

I'm against illegal migration, he loves it, so I'm the bad guy with crazy opinions

Lol, do you feel better now?

You really think Newcastle is small, try two of the small airports I have used, Norwich and Southend.
Both of which half probably half the departure gates of Newcastle, maybe less (Southend I couldn't say specifically how many, but iirc its about 10 check in desks and 10 departure gates, Norwich I think is a smidge larger maybe about 15)

I won't even mention the flight from Cambridge airport I once took as its close to home.

As far as me being a lefty that probably says more about you than me.
I am and have been a conservative most of my adult life, I mean an actual one, not just someone who votes for them.
I am very much positioned with Cameron and Johnson in being a "One Nation Tory", I am economically right with a reasonable level of libertarian streak.
I am very much not a frothing at the gills about immigration Tory, which is probably what you would deem a normal right wing person.
I am very much not for illegal immigration, I have actually never met anyone who is, again thats probably saying a lot more about you with the inability to differentiate the various types and how we should deal with them.

Anyway, back to fun little airports…

I went to the Maldives a few years ago, and our resort required a 1 hour internal flight south from the capital Male:

This is the sort of airport where it takes 5 minutes fit the bags to be offloaded and driven to the arrival ‘room’, before being put out in front of you:

We were on the first flight back the day we left, and got picked up from our room at 4am for the midday departure back to the UK. The airport was opened for us and check in, baggage, security, escort to the plane, startup and wave off were all conducted by the same 3 people…

Last time i flew from Gatwick i almost missed my flight due to the horrendous queues in the security section. Took my 2 hours to get through security and literally boarded my flight on last calls.

Always worth remembering you can pay for fast track security on the day
Its only £8 per person (£6 if booked in advance)

If security is really jammed its well worth it to avoid the stress

Why would you not just tell a member of staff your flight is soon and get bumped to the front of the security queue? Done that many times as I like to arrive last minute.

newcastle airport is the smallest airport in the world.
even when its busy its not that busy.

the gates aren't that hard to find, usually they tell the gate 30+minutes before the flight roughly when the baggage lanes close, with easy jet I would usually be sat at the gate for like 25mins every time before boarding starts

just sit somewhere you can see a board. down the escalators/stairs to the entrance to all the gates, there is a small shop there with seats and a departure board, also much more quiet and less busy down there.)

I used to fly out of newcastle all the time, with only carry on luggage and would just leave my house exactly as the luggage lane opened or within 30 mins of it closing. (city centre so like 20mins in a taxi)

with a 7.05am flight the bag drop should close at 6:25am so you wanna get there for at least then at the absolute minimum assuming you have no check in bags.
with bags probably 6.05am at the latest unless you want big stress

btw don;t get the metro there it'll probably break down with a bus replacement
We are now planning to get there for 4:30am got parking booked right outside the terminal so that will be a very short walk.

your probably sitting around doing nothing for 2 hours, what time does baggage lane open? just turn up about 20minutes before that and jump in the queue.

if you have checked bags is the baggage lane even open at 4:30am? or do you have to wait around in the main foyer/arrivals area because there's literally not much there apart from I think a greggs and tiny cafe

bag drop is before security sdo you can't go into the terminal until you drop bags off.

only 10 planes can park at newcastle gates at a time, technically it has like 20 gates but most of them double up and some are for charter flights.

even east midlands airport looks bigger on google maps

oh wow newcastle barely changed since 1972

still basically the same number of gates, just more shops and some waiting rooms at the gates

We did but the lady just said everyone else is in the same situation! I remember we were close to the front of the queue to have our hand luggage scanned and there was a lady in a separate queue begging the staff to let her through as her flight was 11.15am and she wasn't even near the front yet. Felt sorry for her as my flight was 11.30am and the time was around 11am i remember.

Baggage lane opens at 4am (confirmed by Jet2) then straight to security.

Just get there in plenty of time - you’d rather be sat around in departures with a Greggs sausage roll doing some plane spotting than panicking in the massive queue at security because “someone told me I could skip the queue by being late!” and the staff member laughs in your face…

That is my aim, Getting up at 2:45am and as soon as we are ready we are leaving!

Flown from Newcastle loads.

It's not a big airport. Security, walk through duty free and you're in a smallish (for an airport) waiting area.

Plenty of screens will keep you updated and probably show the gate about half an hour before your flight.

It takes no more than 5 minutes or so to walk to your gate

We flew out of Liverpool last week for the first time.
The gate didnt go live on screen until 45 mins before takeoff, 15 mins before it supposedly closed.
Fortunately it also isnt that big an airport, but they were announcing last call before we got there.
When we did and got on the bus the plane was at the opposite end of the airport to the gate.

Always prefer to stay close to the airport night before, regardless of flight time. Then get up and a nice early arrival at airport, sort bags / security etc then head to a lounge to relax with some grub and a pint or two. Lounges are great as it takes you away from all the hustling and bustling of people constantly moving.

As an older traveller I’ve noticed the sudden transition from “boarding” to “gate closing” & no interim status of “last call”. At least that happened recently to me at Heathrow.

Panic inducing when you find out you’re still 15 minutes from the gate.

They don’t seem to put out a call for tardy passengers anymore. Strewth, I remember then sending staff into the Irish pub at Heathrow Terminal 3 to drag people onto their flights to Riyadh

I’ve noticed at regional airports, sometimes they’ll board you 1 hour before departure which actually means you pass through the gate to spend 30 minutes either standing in a line on the stairs or, even worse, crammed on a stationary bus for the duration.

I guess they do it when the terminal is busy to ease some congestion.

Seems to be the thing these days earlier in the year took a flight to spain first the plane was delayed almost two hours then the gate changed from one to another finally it said it only had a short time before closing if I wasn't eyes glued to the announements board I'd likely have missed it. No calls whatsoever. Finally got through boarding only to be stuck on the corridor down to the plane for what felt like another half hour all standing clutching our luggage if it had been a hot day it'd have been unbearable. On the way back because I had a ticket for a rear seat they opened a side door down which lead down onto the runway so got to walk alone across that for a hundred yards before climbing the mobile stairs up to the rear of the plane, that was novel

You’re lucky they didn’t make you take a bus for that 100 yard dash

Dunno about Newcastle for if I just have hand luggage i get to Luton about an hour before my flight time so I can just go through security and straight to the gate. Need to spend as little time in luton as possible though
