That sounds normal if fan stop is on...hey guys, got my 5090 installed and just sorting things out.. one thing is that MSI AfterBurner is telling me the "idle" temps of my 5090 is mid 40c ~
Is that normal, the fans are off atm too btw.

It's normal if the fans are off and you aren't truly idle.

Idle power consumption for 5080 is about 25w, 5090 is slightly over 30w.
Think mine sits at low 40s usually. High 30s if the room is colder.
Do you guys undervolt your card???
Yes, after too long. Stupidly easy and dropped power usage by about 100w and at least 5C of temps. Do it. Also made the card faster in benches since I also put the core up.
Yes. It will crash if you push it too high. What card do you have?bit worried here, I tried an undervolt but by mistake, I put the graph up wrong, it went really high, and when I clicked apply the pc crashed.. I managed to get into task manager after a reboot, and quit MSI AB, uninstalled it and re-installed..
is this normal? im guessing so as people that overclock and what not chase performance through "crashing" and "stability"??
Idle temps don't matter unless it is getting hot enough for the fans to come on, that won't cause issues but will be annoying.yeah, im about 37W-38W on average,
Great, im in the ballpark at least then, thanks!

Try 0.895v at 2, 800. Will be better than stock and around 100w less in games.
If you chase benchmarks like Steel Nomad, it needs more refining, but in games there will be, (very roughly, 4K example), only 5fps max 'native' of a difference between above and a larger, probably unstable, and defo hotter overclock.
Also, don't set the undervolt in Afterburner to load on Windows boot, then if it crashes, it will just reboot as default gpu values.
Good luck.

It's only max temps you need to worry about.
Nope. Having the panel on will give better air flow in the direction its needed. Else the whole mechanism of air flow is interrupted. If you have the panel off and an external fan blowing into the PC you might get better temps.TO NOTE:
I have had my side panel off all day since my setup was complete, and just before I ate, I shut the PC down and put the side panel back on, and now booted up into W11 and my temps have decreased further?
I would have assumed that the panel off would allow better airflow?? go figure!
Undervolting is amazing. Such a massive difference between running at 600W and 450W and the performance is pretty much the same.well...applied the undervolt last night, came on today (granted its cold in the room atm) and my temps yesterday at "basic use" on the GPU was around 45-48c and today im averaging 38-39c!
just downloading an intensive game to test it out on. taking forever though with my ***** broadband!![]()

That's interesting. Maybe your undervolt is affecting the lower voltage points as well then. I left points 0.800v and 0.810v alone and just selected the area between 0.810v and my chosen 0.910v. That said, I do idle the same now around 35-40W like you, with the lowest observed being 25W.and to add to that, my general usage Watts were around 85W ish.. now around 35-40W!!

Edit: I guess you are talking about overall using less W.
