**** The Official Chinese Phones Thread ****

Hello its been a long time since I bought one of these phones (Lenovo K3 Note about 10 years ago with custom ROM)

I'm in the market for a phone for my mum. She uses it primarily for YouTube and reviving calls so I got a Lebara SIM for a fiver a month.

She currently uses a Honor 8X but it's dared so looking to upgrade her. Any recommendations for a budget of £150?

Poco F6 if you can stretch the budget to £179 (10% coupon), or Moto G84 for £135.

It's the same snapdragon one I was referring to? Or am I missing something?

Flagship Snapdragon® 8s Gen 3 Mobile Platform
It's the same chip set used in top end phones so should be more than enough for general usage and some Youtube.

Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 was last gens top end the 8s gen 3 was below that but saying that it's still more then powerful enough

Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 is somewhere between 8 Gen 3 and 8 Gen 2, regrettably closer to the latter

Phone has been serup and we're happy with it. It came with case and charger which was surprisingly nice.

The phone is snappy and performs great although it did got hot installing the latest 6GB Android update

Grabbed an Honor Magic V2 refurbished from Honors website with full warranty for £439, I thought for that price it was worth a gamble to try out a foldable for the first, upgrading from my Huawei Mate 20x I questioned if it would be worth it, I was kinda forced into upgrading as I was starting to get more and more apps saying they weren't compatible anymore due to being stuck on Android 9, anyway that aside I love it!

Really feels like a tablet, and the screen format when unfolded is brilliant, basically square rather than wide-screen which is so much better for web browsing imo, I'm obviously worried about the longevity of the device, I just have to cross my fingers and hope for th best on that one.

I've had one before and considered picking up a cheap one like yourself , decent camera, solid build and nice in the hand.

However, I'm still using my Mate 20x too. Great all round phone. I used change phones every damn month but I think I'll stick with the Mate till it bows out.

Support is nil like you said but I don't install many apps these days so not such a big deal for me personally.

Enjoy your new phone :)

Still running a Magic V2 myself, it was a bit ropey in the early days but a few updates sorted it, still not as good as Samsung on the software front if you are a big DeX user, which I am but it is not as unreliable as it used to be and not annoying enough to switch to a new device, fingers crossed some one releases a tri fold in the UK soon, that's the only upgrade I am after to resolve the poor media experience a square window in a 16:9 world is, but yeah, browsing and office stuff is great on it, also makes for a great Nav screen in my car.

I am thinking of importing one from China, what's the durability like? my brothers original z fold did not last 2 years. The device would not open fully and Samsung refused to fix the hinge, stating user caused the fault.

You'd be looking at a V3 now. It comes with wireless charging, which was missing on the V2. I got one a few months ago. Seems pretty durable - especially when in a folded position, but obviously I'm being a bit more careful with it than previous phones. The available cases protect the exposed corners pretty well.

Yup my Fold4 screen failed in second year and I had simlar hinge issue with not folding flat, this Magic V2 seems more durable but I put it in a better case than I did the Samsung, so that might be why.

They are just releasing the V5 over here, so if you are going to do a buy, that'd be the one, if your wallet can take it :D

The Fold 7 is thinner though and cheaper.
