*** The Official Nintendo Switch 2 ***

Will be recording my pickup from Amazon drop off. From walking up, typing in code given to opening door. If it’s not the console, then I don’t know how they can get around that one.
You will know you have got the correct item by the weight of the box (around 2 kilos), also have a good look at the address label to make sure it's not been tampered with ;)

Hurray! Managed to get one off the big rainforest.

Now to try and find a cheap copy of Pokemon Violet.

Also what are all of your must have switch 1 games?
The first games console I bought with my own money was a SNES, and Super Mario World was one of my favourite games ever. It was so clever with it's power ups, hidden exits, secret star world etc. Trying to find all 96* levels (in the days before internet and YouTube guides) brings back happy memories!

Although I've really enjoyed some of the more recent Mario games, I don't feel like any have ever given me the same buzz as Mario World... until Super Mario Wonder. For me - Mario Wonder is the most comparable game to Mario World, and is one of the (if not THE) greatest Mario games ever. I deliberately didn't transfer over my saves from my OG Switch so that I can start Mario Wonder again. Some amazing (and really frustrating) levels in there that I'm looking forward to tacking again... and some I'm dreading!

If I could only take 1 OG Switch game with me to Switch 2, it would be Super Mario Wonder!

Ok so my list of games to pickup are

Zelda: Breath of the wild
Zelda: Tears of the kingdom
Metroid Dread
Mario Odyssey
Mario Wonder
Luigis Mansion 3
Split fiction

I think that's a good list to work through

To be fair the machine has only just come out. How many machines launch with more than 1/2 'must have' games; and in this case the Switch 1 has a massive library of extremely good games.

I'd like to see more announced soon though; they need to get a decent number of S2 games out this year; although the sheer weight of S1 library will keep people going for a while, especially with the performance upgrades etc.

Same but I'm having fun replaying Zelda with the Switch 2 upgrade.

Exactly my point (in response to Kakarott). The Switch 1 library, either directly upgraded, or indirectly, buys them a bit of time as its large enough, and has enough high quality titles in it for most people not to have played them all; they DO need to get a decent number of Switch 2 exclusive, or heavily upgraded, titles out this year though to ensure the momentum doesn't falter. I suspect they'll have at least a few games they've not announced yet, due to release between now and Christmas frankly. Nintendo are one of the few companies that seems to actually manage to shadow drop stuff these days.

To be fair, he's still right, there aren't many S2 games so you have to ask for S1 recommendations. At least some of the S1 games have graphical updates otherwise it'd be a bit of a dud launch.
That's the thing, under that judgment criteria, most consoles in the last 15 years would be flops; with most not building up a decent catalogue until at least a few months in.
The last consoles I can think of that had true, 'MUST HAVE' launch titles would be the N64 with Mario 64, Halo Combat Evolved on the Xbox, and BOTW on Switch 1.

PS2/3/4/5, Xbox 360, Gamecube, Wii U, Xbox Series S/X etc, none of them had games that'd be considered truly must have on Day 1, and been fairly common to have a wave of ports/cross gen titles at launch, with the more heavy hitting games landing months into launch.

In the next few months, we have the following all expected; with likely more to be announced/revealed:

June, 2025

July, 2025

August, 2025

September, 2025

Q3 2025

October, 2025

Q4 2025

2025 (Tentative)

I would be VERY surprised if Nintendo don't have more than this coming as well.
I am distinctly wondering if we will get a shadow drop of Metroid Prime 2+3 Remastered ahead of Metroid Prime 4 as well.

It makes sense given the timeframes. You can't make a God of War level game in a year - obviously you can do some upfront work if the platform is more standard (unlike the PS3) but at some point you need the actual development kit to create new games.

Like you said, backwards compatibility, remasters, etc. is usually the main library for the launch cycle.

I bought the Joy Con 2 charging grip and just took it out of the box and was surprised to find it has the back buttons on it! Now I might not need the Pro 2 controller straight away.

I didn't know about that. Was a pleasant surprise.

Exactly, and if the rumours are true, then Nintendo seeded some big, heavy hitting studios with dev kits earlier on, but smaller studios had to wait until much more recently to get thier hands on things; likely because Nintendo was either A) Trying to keep specs etc close to thier chest B) Were still tinkering around with the final specifications; and its easier to do that when the dev kits and information are not so widely distributed.

Edit: I also still stand by the fact the Switch OLED was likely originally going to be a Switch Pro (or whatever they'd have called it) with an upgraded SOC. They (IMO) put too much work into it; upgraded dock (with a 4k capable HDMI chip in), better form factor, more storage, better screen, better speakers, the whole shebang; for it to have just been for the sake of it; but then that central, upgraded SOC got killed by the chip shortages/inflation and pricing; it'd either have been too expensive for the uplift, or they couldn't get the quantity/pricing per unit or just the sheer volume they needed given the point in the life cycle of the Switch, and they simply put all the rest of the work they'd done into it into a more premium machine, to at least sell SOMETHING to the fanbase.
There were FAR too many rumours, some I believe that were from developers, about a Switch Pro, for it to have been smoke without fire completely; combine that with the rest of what happened with the Switch OLED, and I just stand my ground it all makes logical sense; just that it never quite came together into a final product. Nintendo also patented a GPU in the docking station (aka eGPU) years ago.

It'd make a lot more sense this is another reason they've kept specs close to thier chest until late in the day, trying to avoid a repeat, and also why they kept the pricing close to thier chest right up until the reveal. (besides the rubbish going on in the US)

The Switch Pro 2 controller feels SO nice. Its expensive, but it feels a lot nicer than the charging/joycon grip (which I think is more or less the same as the grip that comes with the main Switch 2, no?). Promise :)

I did love the OG Pro Controller though, which made the price for this one more tolerable.

I'll get the Pro 2 controller when it is back in stock. The grip that comes with the Switch 2 does not have the back buttons but the charging grip does which I was surprised about.

I completely agree - the Switch 2 lineup so far is pitiful. I was just speaking to someone at work a minute ago who asked me how the Switch 2 was going. We spoke about MKW, and then they asked what other games I had. NONE! Will likely get DK in about 6 weeks, but for now it's MKW, and replaying Mario Wonder.

Even out of the games listed above for 2025, there's very few that jump out at me. My son will be all over FC26, but that'll just be a few names changed from FC25!

Hopefully Nintendo have a few tricks up their sleeves...
