Hi Everyone,

I've been trying to spec up sensible parts I need for a 5090 system.
This is what i've come up with. Would anyone be kind enough to cast an eye on this list and tell me if i have any blunders.
Also do i need additional cooling like heat sinks etc?

Thanks very much for any help and advice.

What are you using the PC for?

I've been trying to spec up sensible parts I need for a 5090 system.
This is what i've come up with.
By sensible, do you just mean that will work with it, or do you mean that are the most cost effective? What I'm asking here is: do you want to save money, or do you not care?

Use of the PC is rendering and AI.

In terms of saving money, if there are parts/options that will be almost the same but cheaper that's ok. many things i see look much the same and are more expensive. But are they really better or is it a brand name thing?

The machine will get a lot of load rendering. so my concerns are cooling but also performance. I wont be overclocking it (probably).

Just to add, Ideally i dont want to go over £4k cost.

You can save a easy £100 by switching to a Thermalright 360mm AIO or £60 if you wanted one with a fancy display built into the pump/block. Another £50 saved by switching the psu to the Antec HCG 1200w Platinum.
Good call. I switched to Antec PSU. Never had a problem with them so good one. What's the deal with the "Thermalright 360mm AIO". Am i just paying for fancy lights with the Cooler Master (which i note has a lot of advertising too) ?

I have that CoolerMaster AIO and it's been pretty good for me so far but the difference in performance between them all is miniscule so definitely can save some pennies by going for a different model.

Thank you!

I'm embarrassed to admit, i thought the 9800X3D was better, but it isn't for my purposes. and 9900X is also cheaper.

An example of what i meant by "sensible" :)
Yeah, the 9800X3D is a great gaming CPU! But, for your workload, the 9900X sounds like it'd be better, to have more multithreaded performance.

I would even suggest to look at these 2 as they are rated higher and even cheaper. I use the 1300w one, great PSU, silent, cables are nice, the 12VHPWR cables have blue ends to help you make sure its fully plugged in

And finally, just make sure you've budgeted for a nice monitor, this often gets overlooked yet has a huge impact on your experience in case you want to consume content or game.

Good luck :)

Thermalright are just killing it
With performance to price ratio for quite a while now
Their air coolers and aio are almost impossible
Not to recommend
They're moving into pc cases too now

They own their own factories
And tooling
Means you can undercut just about everyone
But they aren't just undercutting everyone in price
But producing a so so product
Their products are right up there too

Thanks a lot for pointing those out. I like the look of the 1300W model. It's only £10 cheaper than the Antec i was planning on, but it does actually look quite good.

Yeah, looking at the details these seem incredible value by comparison. I can't really see any real difference in effectiveness. I was looking at the "Thermalright 360mm AIO" for £50 vs something for £150. Sometimes the difference is just marketing and that's perhaps the case here too.

Stick with the Antec, it's a better psu. With that Lian Li the cable connections will be pointing at the rear side panel of your case meaning that the cables have to do a 180 degree bend just to get into the case. It's a ridiculous format that Lian Li came up with for a problem that doesn't exist.

I'd like to thank everyone here who responded in this thread. Thank you! I've contacted OC to place a system order. FYI, i'm going for the 9900X + antec + Thermalright. plus probably the cheaper end of the 5090s, as I cant see any real difference in the offerings.

Hoping to make some good renders with it!

kitthanks.webp
