BS parking fine!

I did some other odds and sods as well. yes it is on me for assuming it was the same length allowed as Tesco's next door. but it is pretty crappy given I did do a large shop there. I am lucky I have not been done before tbh as I regularly do my Aldi shop then go for a coffee (or vice versa).

(no I wasn't charging my car there - they don't have em for one and the days of free supermarket charging are long gone - before I got an EV at least)

Right, so you didn't spend 1hr 50 mins just shopping in Aldi then. Sounds like you took the pee with parking way longer than the very generous 90 mins they gave you.

I'm not sure what you're complaining about. Time to pay up.

I got caught accidentally driving down a bus lane last month - my own silly fault, I was just following the sat nav in a place I hadn’t been to in years - I didn’t even realise I had done it until I got the letter. It was £75 fine or £35 if paid within 21 days (I think). In the letter it basically said the timer resets if I appeal (think it said if they write back and say I must pay, I have another 14 days to pay).

I wrote a letter apologising and begging for mercy and they wrote back and wrote off the penalty! I was genuinely surprised, didn’t think they’d give me a pass.

And this is exactly why they have the time limits. Whenever I go to an Aldi the car park is rammed.

ours is not so bad . Tesco's is next door and has a massive sign saying 3 hrs which I assume would have been standard for all carparks. I guess people park there rather than Aldi if they are going to more than 1 place

What really, really bugs me are the lazy holes who dump trolleys in cycle bays rather than walking 50 feet to put them in the correct space. We cannot lock up the bike with a load of trolleys blocking the bay. So I end up doing that small task. Car drivers, I despair.

they are a pita if I don't have my keys or a pound coin but that is where the trolleys which you need to put a token come in . even the twonks happy to ditch their trolly in the middle of the car park will probably take it back if there is a £1 in it for them, and if they forgot well that is free money for my lad if he returns them (which to be fair I think has only ever happened once - unlike Sainsbury's and Tesco's were every single week he returns 1 random trolly and I take another (not for any civic duty reason but I have had them roll into my car esp on windy days)

So you overstayed the time allowed, then ignored their first letter, and you’ve come here to ask for what, forgiveness?

No. Man up, pay the bill and follow the rules next time.

I didn't ignore the 1st letter it only arrived yesterday!. but no I came here to find out if anyone had had any luck appealing if they had proof of using the store. I genuinely did not see the signage saying 90 mins, I knew there was a sign but assumed it was patrons only and given the carpark next door was 3 hrs thought Aldi was as well.
yes I was in the wrong (by mistake not deliberate) and ultimately I will pay if it's not worth appealing.... the the people here defending the companies like private clampers and what not who fine up to £100 for going a few minutes over on parking ...... Iirc the law is in the process of changing to bring down the fines for going a few minutes over so it seems I am not the only one who thinks those private companies are a bit OTT

You'll get nowhere just writing an appeal about how you're a nice guy and you were definitely in the shop.

The parking company are out to make whacking big profits, that's the beginning and end of it. The appeals system is loosely based on legal concepts, so if you've factually broken the rules you won't win an appeal.

If you don't want to pay (and I wouldn't in your scenario, these parking companies are ridiculous for situations like this where you were genuinely shopping) follow the guides on MSE and you'll likely not need to pay.

You're not helping your credibility by editing the OP to remove the reference to you not responding to the first letter.

As for not seeing the sign, that's not a problem with the car park company, that's your own. We know that signs exist, but you couldn't be bothered to go look for it.

If you admit you're wrong, just pay up, learn to look for the signs and stop bleating about it.

It's like no one takes responsibility for themselves nowadays.
Can I also suggest that you take a scan at the work of Dietrich Bonhoeffer.

excuse me..... care to elaborate? afaik all my edits were additions or typo corrections
actually i just checked the OP. it isnt showing as edited at all so either i am having a brain burp (not impossible) or you are trying to make up lies to win some argument which i would hope no one is that much of a plonker to do.

i literally got the letter yesterday so i have not had time to have made the decision to not respond to the 1st letter anyway

I have to admit my writing in the OP is utterly awful however i cant edit it now as you will then use that as ammunition for calling me dishonest again!.

My OP admits i went over, it was my mistake due to the carpark next door having a 3hr window however i was literally asking to see if anyone had experience of appealing based on proof of using the store over that period. And some people answered helpfully so thank you to those people.

My apologies, I clearly mis-read, misunderstood or simply ballsed up on my sanity checking.

I'll happily retract my previous assertion about the 1st letter being ignored.

like i said on rereading it is like it was done by a 5 year old. i will edit it now. I may (sometimes) be wrong, i may be unreasonable... but i try not to be dishonest.

Yeah, they put these rules in for people doing 'odds and sods' and clogging up car parks unnecessarily, so you can't complain that spending 2 hours there including doing odds and sods isn't a fair cop.. Definitely the thread title is incorrect IMO..

Saying that, I would have course fight it myself, even though you may be in the wrong and slightly taking the mickey, that doesn't mean it's not worth pursuing..

My Daughter has been pinged countless times, some legit (She worked on the retail park), some not so, but I've always managed to help her get out of them..

Not quite the same, but my local motorcycle store has a system where you have to input your reg number into a tablet at the entrance, and being the eejit I am I forgot and got a fine.
I went into the store and asked if they could do anything as I’ve bought a few bikes from them etc and they got it cancelled.
You’ve nowt to lose by asking.
