Hi All

We are looking into building a Sim Rig for exhibitions at work.

Monitor wise, 49" 5120x1440 resolution. The games will likely be Forza motorsport, assetto corsa etc.

I dont play these games myself, and i'm struggling to figure out what GPU/CPU is likely needed to get 120+ FPS in the sim rig type racing games at this kind of resolution.

Would a 7700 CPU and a 9070 be enough? 9070XT? or are we in 5090 territory?

Thanks

The cpu would be fine as you will be gpu bottlenecked. However at that resolution the 9070xt would struggle at anything above 45-50fps unless you are prepared to lower settings and/or enable dlss. 5080 would be the best price to performance also give you a nice upgrade. Unless you can afford a 5090 then go ahead :)
Edit: Forget what i said my friend plays assetto corsa on a 4070ti at 4k and gets 100fps max setting so you are good to go. Forgot that some games can be well optimized :)
Edit 2: tested assetto corsa competizione myself at 4k max setting with my 4080 super at stock and got 190fps average depending on track and conditions

ok cool, that sounds good then. Happy to play with the settings to get the frame rate where it needs to be.
Thanks for your help

Isn't this a situation where you want to go all out? If so, you might find the below of interest:

I cant see my place of work going "all out" on anything.

One of the other guys has knowledge of the driving sim bits, so he has spec'd that up so they just looked to me for speccing the PC. I'll build it, if i have the choice, rather than buy something ready made. Having said that, ive often been in the situation having spent many hours finding the perfect laptop/monitor/whatever and then they buy something else anyway, so trying not to put too much effort in really. if i do build it, i'll check the spec on here. Since i have no real experience with the sim type racing games, and they dont tend to be used for benchmarking, ive no idea really how much GPU power i'm going to need with a 5120x1440 resolution.

Thanks

A 9070 is a good pick. I run a 6900 XT on my triple 1440p sim rig and play AC, ACC, etc. I'm not maxing out the 165 Hz refresh rate, but the performance is plentiful - 90-100 FPS with high/ultra settings. I certainly wouldn't go any higher end than the 9070 XT.

A 7700 will be fine for the CPU, but sims do love 3D cache if you can stretch to something like a 7800X3D. A nice to have more than essential though - mine is running a 12600K with no issues.
