S2000 owners thread. 9,000rpm of goodness in here.

Perfect I'll grab that then!

Wonder if I should polish the boot lid first too, there's definitely witness of where the previous adhesive sat
if you do polish, just make sure it doesn't leave any coating/wax etc, ideally use panel wipe or alcohol to get it good. Tape seems to stick best to bare/clean clearcoat :)

Currently in the process of trying to move house and our chain has collapsed so I've had to pull out of buying the S2000. Gutted on both fronts. Sure it will all work out in the end but a right kick in the stones for now.

So I've got the parts to do the placebo gear shift rebuild thing.

What grease can I use? I really doubt I need the expensive official honda stuff that they all say to use in the owners club circle? Surely high temp grease is.. high temp grease?

Any recommendations for something cheaper and more readily available?

Cheers

My rebuild kit came with the correct grease. It didn't feel like anything special though. I would expect any high-temp grease will be fine.

Just the replacement bushing for the end of the lever. It's a wear item.
Yeah the nerds on the owners forums and Reddit make out it's a night and day difference, I'm not expecting anything from it tbh.

Mine wasn't a kit, just the individual components so I'll grab some random grease, cheers! (Mines the plastic bushing, not the brass version)

I've ordered individual parts for that to refresh mine.. it has had a hard life, only 44k miles but probably 50% of it getting trashed.

I've also got a gear set from kia sportage and getting all the oem bits to rebuild the diff with that, will go up to 4.62 which should make a big difference on the tracks I drive it on.

lower top speed, higher revs at motorway speeds etc but faster acceleration, from my reading around it should be able to match an NSX up to 120ish mph.

all in, around £1k to do but I'll be removing and reinstalling the diff my self. A mate of mine will rebuild it.

you need :

4.62 gears - around £300
all oem bits - around £300
js racing shims - £150-200
rebuild cost - few hours labour from someone comfortable doing it

plus removal/install which for me will be free but painful haha.

something that I hope to get done after my track day on the 7th.

Sounds like a great project! Good luck

These cars are definitely special.

I’m a bit of a man of leisure day to day, parked up in one of the nice squares in central Bristol, roof down, having some lunch as I’m waiting for a friend to finish with her haircut and an old boy walks past looking at the car, then doubles back and starts asking me lots of questions and telling me all about his car history from the 70’s when he used to drive. Don’t think I’d get that in anything more modern. It was adorable.

I had a similar interaction recently. An older gent I'd say late 70s came in to our workshop near the end of the day to ask for some help with a machining job.

I locked up and went to drive out the car park and he was still out the front messing with his bike. As I locked the gate he came over and started with "I'm glad to see you hat you drive something decent (lol) "

Then spoke to me in depth about how he owned one once, and other vtecs. Was really interesting.

I get the occasional Yell from random teenagers as I drive about (positive yelling) but to have someone who I would expect to be more in to classic cars, be so knowledgeable about the s2000 was pretty cool/surprising.

That said the UK owners clubs does seem to have an older demographic too which again surprised me.

I just assumed it would be the boy racer sort but I'm soo glad it's not

Going to get a quote for a front bumper respray and potentially the boot lid too (prefer without the spoiler lip and the removal of that has left some marks due to the overkill adhesive a precious owner used)

Will come back with what they say

Had positive experiences with all ages in all the "cooler" hondas i have owned, Including my old S2000, my EP3, my CRZ that just got wrote off and most recently my new red FK8 that i just bought, had an old chap come up to me in tesco carpark the other day saying how nice it was and how his late wife only drove Hondas and how she would have loved to have seen it, i would say he was in his late 60's

In all honesty i would say the FK8 breaks more necks than the S2000 did, even though the S2000 was J's racing Body kitted with a supercharger and quite loud!

I do miss the S2000 for some things, Such as how good it launched from a standstill and held grip - compared with the Civic FK8, but the way the civic drives and feels and goes around the corners is just better in every way, you can do silly things, and go silly speeds in it and it just feels "safe" in a way the S2000 never did. Despite all the modern stuff i chucked on it, including Ohlin suspension and full rebush.

Oh and i do miss the engine sound and the 9k limit!! The FK8 sounds very boring, literally no engine noise at all even when giving it some, which i guess is quite nice in some ways, but would prefer the F20C noise!

For completely removing the front bumper and taking it back completely/respraying (also removing the Front lip, addressing scuffs on its underside and respraying) and also addressing issues in both front wings he would want £800. I don't know what's a good deal or not ... Never had any paint work done on a car

The boot issue would be more and I'm probably thinking I'll just stick the spoiler back on as it was rather than spend loads on it
