Last night about 10.30pm I hear a crash, screeching tyres and another crash. Got out of bed and ran to the window to see my cars hazzards are flashing so I knew my car must have been hit. Got outside to see a bloke staggering about saying its his fault and hes had a drink. It looks like he was driving down the road, hit my rear drivers side quarter which shunted about 3 other cars, spun in the road and an innocent driver coming the other way didnt have time and slammed into him. Called the cops, the guy blows a 93 and gets arrested and taken to hospital. The black Mazda was the perp

The car at first didnt look too bad but looking more carefully the rear quarter is bent, the rear suspension must be bent as its been pushed forwards, its creased the sill, split an alloy, damaged the front bumper where it shunted into the car in front and pushed in the front camera. Whats more worrying it that the car has been pushed onto the kerb so I tried to move it off and although the car goes into gear it has no drive at all, it just wont move so who knows what has happened to the drive train as it was shunted about 2 foot. **Now written off as a total loss**

What a ******* :(

Is that the third car you've had smashed up outside the house now?

Yeah two by drunks and one by an old man. Out of a whole row of cars they seem to crash into mine for some reason. I need to move to a cul de sac with a driveway

Ah that sucks, guessing you have no off road parking if it's now the 3rd car you've had where this has happened.

Was also going to say about any off road parking, even if it means digging out a front garden.

I imagine your premiums are already higher than they should be from previous incidents. Is this likely to be a write off too - looks like some pretty serious damage.

My premium isnt too bad as its been over quite a few years, its just over £800. Dont think it will be a write off as to replace like for like its about £55k from a dealer but the fact it doesnt move might make quite a difference so who knows

I feel for you. What a pain. I’d be raging!

I assume his insurance will pay out despite the fact he was drunk?
They will be liable for third party damage but i believe they wont pay for the drunk drivers own damages? Been a while since i worked insurance so someone may correct me

It wouldn't surprise me to see them want to write it off, give you the cash, sell the wreck on for £25k or something and then some degenerate from <insert stereotypical dodgy city> will bodge it back together as cheap as possible and unload it into some unsuspecting sap for £50k in a couple of months.

Edit - and to be honest, with something like an M5 clearly having some sort of drivetrain damage along with all the cosmetics, i'd be hoping they do write it off, could be a recipe for no end of long term problems if it was repaired - a write off would be the easy way to move forward I expect.

Hope the Mazda driver gets shot. Literally ridiculous that you now have to state all that crap when insuring, when you were literally asleep at the time.
