I wouldn't say I was making a fuss tbh just objectively looking at the mathsYou only have to have your car plugged in. So make sure your car is already at 80% and won't charge.
Don't know what the fuss is about over what 50p worth of free energy?
Sorry just meant in general. I was interested in these things when I first joined octopus but they are just a gimmick, pennies worth of benefit.I wouldn't say I was making a fuss tbh just objectively looking at the maths
It's no good, it's worth 50p in total. 1 hr at 7kW at 7p / kWh.It’s good for IOG customers but not for IOG customers who also have solar. It even said that in one of the earlier emails with words to the effect of, don’t worry about it if you have solar.
So? 50p of electricity for nothing is better than paying 50p for electricity. It's no good, it's worth 50p in total. 1 hr at 7kW at 7p / kWh.
It's not worth going out the front door to plug the car in for.So? 50p of electricity for nothing is better than paying 50p for electricity.
I don’t think I make much more than 70p in the savings sessions, I still do it as that’s 30-50% of my electric cost for the day.
It’s only a poor deal if you have solar. That’s because you go from getting paid 50p to sell your electric to octopus to getting paid 0 but being given about 20p of electricity.
Then don’t?It's not worth going out the front door to plug the car in for.
Im not. Sitting with a beer instead. Then don’t?
It's 50p. There's probably 50p down the back of the sofa if I could be bothered to look. Its also tomorrow, plug in anytime from the point you wake up to 2pm, its hardly a big ask.
You’re an IOG customer so it’s not just 50pIt's 50p. There's probably 50p down the back of the sofa if I could be bothered to look.
Has to be a limit man have some dignity. We ain't scrapping around for pennies. If it was a daily thing I could understand, but once every few months for 50p?
The most I can charge in an hour at 7kW is 7 kWh which is offsetting overnight charging of the same value at 7p per kWh so 49p. Or if I don't actually need to charge but plug in anyway they will give me the 49p anyway for doing nothing. You’re an IOG customer so it’s not just 50p
The part you are missing is that on days where the DFS session runs, there is usually spare electricity in other hours of the day which gets soaked up by IOG outside of the main DFS hour (IOG in itself is a DFS scheme).
It’s likely a number of hours will be at 7p and all charging in an hour will be free.
if it wasn't for the hassle and actually costing me money I would do it. not for the 50p but to help balance the grid. most of these incentives are all experiments and preparing us for a grid more reliant on renewablesIt's 50p. There's probably 50p down the back of the sofa if I could be bothered to look.

Free electricity from Octopus 2-3pm today
So you missed the last three pages of arguments about this?Free electricity from Octopus 2-3pm today
I did but at least for those not wanting to read through them they will be aware of this.So you missed the last three pages of arguments about this?
it was car only not house use for the thing today. that said I would hope if the car actually charged in the slot it would have been 7pI did but at least for those not wanting to read through them they will be aware of this.
I’ll run the car and a few things in the house which should get 10+kWh
