Energy Prices (Strictly NO referrals!)

It’s good for IOG customers but not for IOG customers who also have solar. It even said that in one of the earlier emails with words to the effect of, don’t worry about it if you have solar.

It's no good, it's worth 50p in total. 1 hr at 7kW at 7p / kWh.
So? 50p of electricity for nothing is better than paying 50p for electricity.

I don’t think I make much more than 70p in the savings sessions, I still do it as that’s 30-50% of my electric cost for the day.

It’s only a poor deal if you have solar. That’s because you go from getting paid 50p to sell your electric to octopus to getting paid 0 but being given about 20p of electricity.

It's not worth going out the front door to plug the car in for.

Its also tomorrow, plug in anytime from the point you wake up to 2pm, its hardly a big ask.
It's 50p. There's probably 50p down the back of the sofa if I could be bothered to look.

Has to be a limit man have some dignity. We ain't scrapping around for pennies. If it was a daily thing I could understand, but once every few months for 50p?

You’re an IOG customer so it’s not just 50p

The part you are missing is that on days where the DFS session runs, there is usually spare electricity in other hours of the day which gets soaked up by IOG outside of the main DFS hour (IOG in itself is a DFS scheme).

It’s likely a number of hours will be at 7p and all charging in an hour will be free.

The most I can charge in an hour at 7kW is 7 kWh which is offsetting overnight charging of the same value at 7p per kWh so 49p. Or if I don't actually need to charge but plug in anyway they will give me the 49p anyway for doing nothing.

On IOG that's all you get, no free electric for the rest of the house.

It's possible that more hours will be at 7p yes, but that's not this specific 'saving session' you'd get that if you plugged in regardless of this particular deal.

My overall point is these sessions are pretty much worthless now.

if it wasn't for the hassle and actually costing me money I would do it. not for the 50p but to help balance the grid. most of these incentives are all experiments and preparing us for a grid more reliant on renewables
in truth if I am in I may do it anyway but only if I am around to shut my battery off
am not gonna flatten my battery to help the grid out.

Free electricity from Octopus 2-3pm today

Yea we didn't even bother signing up as we have a solar system and won't pull anything anyway.

It's good though, the electric on the tracker is cheaper tomorrow as well, 18.66p p/kWh for us.

Although we only pull as a very max about 2 kWh per day at the moment, often basically nothing, so you are talking at most 14 pence lol.

So you missed the last three pages of arguments about this?
I did but at least for those not wanting to read through them they will be aware of this.

I’ll run the car and a few things in the house which should get 10+kWh

it was car only not house use for the thing today. that said I would hope if the car actually charged in the slot it would have been 7p
had the car not have smart charged you would have still got the 50p or what ever but all the rest of your usage would have been full price.
