Another Drunk Driver Crashes into my Car

This is horrible :(

In a situation like this, what is the preferred end result? I imagine a Write off Vs having a car that's then registered as some sort of CAT going forward?

Obviously both suck, genuine question though.

They cant return it to me as some CAT as that means they would have written it off. If someone then buys the car as it is after it’s written off and repairs it then it becomes a CAT x car. Ultimately it depends on how bad it is, if it’s bad and borderline then I would rather it written off and I will find another / something else.

Ahhh I get you, makes sense.

Id be inclined to agree with you there too, depending on how mad it is.

What a crappy situation, just because of another selfish git on the road.

What a nightmare, I'd definitely be hoping it gets written off. I'm always surprised when you see these types of things and the perpetrator is driving a modern, "normal" car. It's not surprising that a scrote driving around in a £500 shed with no tax and insurance drives ****** and smashes into parked cars, but you'd assume that someone with a CX3 has a job, family, etc and is a normal functioning member of society. 93 is a really high reading too, it's not just a case of him having had a couple too many and risking it because he felt alright.

I heard him say to one of my neighbours who is a nurse looking after him that his wife was going to kill him so probably a family man.

He was staggering about when he got out of the car but I couldn’t tell if it was because he was drunk or stunned from being in an accident. He stunk of booze though.

It’s going to cost his insurance company a fortune paying out for 4 cars.

Insurance might try and reclaim some or all of the cost from him cause he was drunk, so he might be having to find borderline 100k.

Terrible luck. I know it’s probably a bit too early in your thought process, but if the M5 is a right-off, would you replace it with another - perhaps a different spec - or will you look at something else/different?

I was just thinking as you’ve had an E63 and M5, you’ve pretty much covered the best two cars of that type, in that price range.

Hope it all gets sorted with minimal grief.

Drunk driver's insurance will pay for Bear's damages
Insurance won't pay for drunk driver's damage.
Insurance will take drunk driver to court to recoup Bear's payout
Drunk driver isn't likely to be insurable for the foreseeable future

I didn’t realise it worked like that, never having put myself in the shoes of the **** causing all the problems. Normally I’m on the receiving end and getting my trousers pulled down by the insurance company/police.

Cheers. Its a good question as Ive been puzzling over it for a while (before the accident). Thought about 911s, GT4s, Emiras but have discounted them as they are not very practical, so Ive been thinking about another M5 Comp or an M8 Comp GC in Marina Bay Blue

TBH I've given up on expensive cars and find old, cheap but low mileage ones now. One less thing I have to worry about, it's liberating :D

Jesus... that sucks.... once would sadden me.... twice would really annoy me but 3 times, i think i would be looking to do major front garden renovations to make a driveway, parking elsewhere if not possible or failing that look to move house.

its there anything the council could do do add a bollard or something along with better signage? it would seem there is something about your stretch of road which makes it hazardous for drivers if not on their game. if it has happened 3 times it will surely happen again unless something is changed.

Thats a fair comment, it certainly saves a lot of money as cars can swallow a boat load of money if you want it to. Im in a lucky position where the running costs for the cars I drive arent a problem, I own them outright and have no debt at all. The only things I really spend any money on is the car and holidays so they are my only vices

As mentioned before it has been over about 14 years so yes its annoying but you cant help an idiot getting drunk and crashing into a car, Ive just been unlucky that its been mine that takes the brunt of the impacts. We did intend to move a while ago but the mother in law moved round the corner from us and when we did previously suggest about moving, she got really offended, so the wife and I decided we would stay put for the time being, besides its good to be close during her old age incase of emergencies

I love my M5C in MBB, Ultimate pack... I'm due to replace it in Oct and can't think of anything that can do everything this one can. Closest would be the new M5 but in touring.

If it was up to me, anyone that gets caught and then convicted of drink driving would have their driving licence permanently revoked, and I do mean permanently. They're absolute scum! Vermin.
Sadly that doesn't make a difference to many of these scum. You only have to watch programs like Police Interceptors to see how many they catch that are driving while banned or don't even have a licence in the first place. What punishment do they get? A further ban and a slap on the wrist. What's the point of that when they have already shown that they couldn't care less about driving when banned? Jail the scum!! It's about time I courts gave out harder sentences instead of "Silly boy, don't do that again. Consider yourself slapped on the wrist". Where is the deterrence in that? There needs to be real and significant penalties for these scum to put them off doing it again.

And it all gets added on to everyone's premiums at some stage.

Yep it's the reason it's so expensive now. Manufacturers stick £3000 per side headlamps on cars and it's one of the first thing to break when you have a small bump.
